cronic: test that an exported xtrace does not make cronic trace itself; document not exporting verbose - #136
Conversation
When the caller exports SHELLOPTS, the command inherited cronic's own -e and -u, so a bash script that reads an unset variable (such as texi2dvi) failed. Running the command in a subshell also keeps the exit and exec builtins from ending cronic before it reports.
When the caller exports SHELLOPTS with xtrace or verbose, cronic traced or echoed itself to stderr, so cron sent email on every run. Also keep cronic's setup of the command out of the command's trace output.

📝 Walkthrough
Priority: ⬇️ Low Change: Other Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The change is mostly documentation and test coverage, and cronic's runtime behavior is unchanged. One new trace test could pass on an incomplete report, which is a small gap in test strength that can be fixed after merge. Pre-merge checks |

… tests Save the caller's SHELLOPTS rather than a hand-maintained list of option letters, so that every set -o option is restored for the command. Document that verbose and BASH_ENV can still make cronic write to stderr. In the tests, unset PS4, skip trace-section checks when bash lacks BASH_XTRACEFD, and share the PASS/FAIL reporting.

cronicalready does not trace itself when the caller exports xtrace or runsbash -x cronic(#142). This pull request tests that more strictly and documents two limitations; it does not change howcronicruns the command.cronic --helpsays not to export the verbose option via SHELLOPTS, and notes that bash runs the BASH_ENV file beforecronicstarts, so exported options can make that file write to stderr.cronicdirectly rather than through per-option wrapper scripts, and check the exact "TRACE OUTPUT" section of the report for exported xtrace and forbash -x cronic.
