What

Since 091dffb, track_sandbox_layer() refuses an existing mount whose source differs from the requested one. ShellCore always mounts /user/data at the sandbox's /data, so the /data directory layer failed with EBUSY, fakelib setup aborted, and the game was killed with 0xa0020318 (SYSTEM_ABNORMAL_TERMINATION_REQUEST). This was observed on FW 13.60 with 1.7beta6:

[FAKELIB] sandbox mount occupied: <title> (/mnt/sandbox/<title>_003/data)
[SHELLCORE] sandbox fakelib unavailable: status=16 (Device busy)

Change

If the sandbox's /data path is already a mount point, treat that mount as the layer and skip stacking a second nullfs over it. The check is limited to /data; USB, extended-storage, disc and font layers are unchanged.

Testing

  • FW 13.60, 1.7beta6: before this change, launching an exFAT image game aborted with sandbox mount occupied / EBUSY; after it, the log shows [FAKELIB] directory already mounted, sandbox setup completes and the game starts normally.
  • Compiles with the PS5 payload SDK and the project warning flags; git diff --check clean.
  • No game names or title IDs are included.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Prevented redundant mounting attempts when the sandbox data path is already mounted.
    • Improved detection of existing mount points to avoid mount conflicts.

ShellCore always mounts /user/data at the sandbox's /data, so the /data layer failed with EBUSY and fakelib setup aborted, killing the game. 📝 Walkthrough

The change adds a mount-point check. When sandbox /data is already a mount point, the code returns success without tracking or mounting a layer.

Changes: Sandbox mount handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Check existing /data mount
src/sm_fakelib.c
A new helper checks whether statfs reports the supplied path as the mount point. For sandbox /data, the code returns success if the destination is already a mount point. Other directories continue through track_sandbox_layer.

Validate the existing /data mount before reusing it.

mount_sandbox_directory is called with "/data" during setup. The current predicate checks only whether mount_path is any mount point. A stale or unrelated mount can therefore skip the intended nullfs mount, causing the sandbox to use the wrong /data backing. Reuse the mount only when its source is /user/data and its filesystem type is nullfs. Keep the matching mount untracked so cleanup still preserves it.

Superseded by 9ffcbe1, which fixes the same /data identity comparison in sandbox_mount_matches(). Closing to avoid duplication.
