feat(pluginkit): call a hook on every plugin that implements it, with a recover and a time budget - #137
NewHook collects the plugins that implement an interface into a Hook. Hook.Fire calls an action on each in registration order, Filter passes a value through each, and every call runs inside its own recover, together with the text of its error and the check whether that error matches the ended context.
One firing shares one time budget as a context deadline. The plugins after a slow one are still called, and an error that matches the ended context counts as ContextEnded, not as that plugin's fault.
After a firing runs over its budget, the next TimedFirings firings time each plugin, without the time of Report, and a timed firing whose plugins together run over is charged to the slowest. Stats returns every counter, and HookSettings.Report receives each error and panic as a HookFailure. Report is the application's code, so the hook does not recover it, and it must not panic.
A timed firing that only Report pushed over charges no plugin. HookStats.UnchargedOverruns counts it, and HookStats.TimedReportTime adds up the time Report took in timed firings, so an admin can tell a late page caused by the application from one caused by a plugin.
The behaviour is written as Gherkin scenarios in pluginkit/features, a test-only module with its own go.mod, which CI now tests, lints and scans. pluginkit itself still has no dependency.
Why
A downstream application calls named hooks on up to 200 compiled plugins on every public page. One slow or panicking plugin must leave the page and the other plugins working, and the admin must be able to name the slow one. The scenarios let anyone read and dispute those rules without reading the code.
Testing
go test -race -shuffle=on passes, with 31 hook tests, 60 with subtests. Coverage of pluginkit stays at 100%.
17 scenarios with 114 steps pass, 20 times in a row under -race, on a fake clock from testing/synctest.
A real-clock test pins that a firing that runs past its own deadline always counts an overrun.
Mutation testing killed 40 of 40 mutants in hook.go.
Concurrent firings, timed ones included, keep every counter and every report exact under -race.
BenchmarkFireWithTwoHundredPlugins measures a firing of 200 plugins that do nothing at about 1.6 µs, and a timed one at about 13 µs.
CodeScene scores 10.0 on the new Go files except the steps file, at 9.38, since godog hands every captured word to a step as a string.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added hooks that invoke matching plugins in registration order, with support for sequential value transformations.
Hook firings share a configurable time budget. Failures and panics are reported, while filtering retains the current value when a plugin fails.
Added statistics for hook firings, plugin errors and panics, timed calls, and overruns, including attribution of timed overruns to the slowest plugin.
This change adds generic plugin hooks to pluginkit. Hooks invoke matching plugins in registration order, apply a shared firing budget, report failures, track overruns, and expose statistics. Unit tests and Godog scenarios cover hook behavior.

Summary
Hook API and core behavior pluginkit/hook.go, pluginkit/hook_test.go, pluginkit/pluginkit.go, pluginkit/CHANGELOG.md
Adds hook settings, failure and statistics types, registration-order plugin selection, firing and filtering methods, and tests for validation, failure handling, filtering, concurrency, and empty hooks. Updates the package description and changelog.
Firing budgets and timing accounting pluginkit/hook.go, pluginkit/hook_budget_test.go
Runs each firing with a shared deadline. Records per-plugin timing after overruns and attributes timed overruns to the slowest plugin. Tracks report time separately. Tests cover deadlines, error classification, and timing counters.
Behavior scenarios and test integration pluginkit/features/*, .github/workflows/ci.yml
Adds Godog scenarios and step implementations for hook behavior. Adds a feature-test module and lint configuration, and includes the module in CI test, lint, and vulnerability-check matrices.

Explanation
[#136] NewHook, Fire, and Filter cover validation, ordered calls, failure recovery, and shared deadlines. Timed firings charge plugin overruns to the slowest plugin and track report-only overruns separately, as the current issue requires. Tests cover empty-hook allocations, concurrent counters, and budget behavior. The separate feature module provides Gherkin scenarios without adding a pluginkit dependency. The earlier assessment applied a different report-time attribution requirement.

- Line 224: A panic from HookSettings.Report can escape Hook.call and interrupt
the firing. Add a recovery boundary around the Report invocation so a reporting
panic does not stop later plugins or skip firing accounting; preserve the
existing plugin failure handling.
