The check waited for the shell's exit, which happens as soon as the process group gets SIGTERM; penthera, a grandchild via npx, prints "Stopped." a moment later. On macOS that sometimes landed after the check (seen on #69 and #80). Now it also waits for stdout and stderr to close, which needs every process holding them to be gone.
