check: export shared predicates from the existing persistence and disk-reader
modules, then reuse them in the controller’s family() and capture() paths and in
the reader instead of keeping duplicate rules. Ensure refresh() selects the same
entry as the reader and append() retains its final-branch index check; reuse the
shared default readFileSync reader if consolidating it is needed.

Address CodeRabbit review on Gentleman-Programming#1948: the controller, disk reader and persistence codec each kept their own copy of the session-profile family prefix check, and the controller re-implemented the reader's own-key candidate metadata check. Export isSessionProfileFamilyEntry from the codec and hasSessionProfileCandidateMetadata from the reader, and use them everywhere.

Solid work on slice 4a @noxsystems. The failure quarantine modeling for ghost entries (like the EISDIR case) and the honest preflush distinction for unwritten Pi sessions are very well thought out. Running the test matrix against real SessionManager instances in temporary directories gives high confidence in the integration.
A few architectural notes to keep in mind for slice 4b:
-
Deep branch serialization overhead in large sessions:
capture()andstable()currently performJSON.parse(JSON.stringify(branch))andisDeepStrictEqual(c.branch, now.branch)over the full branch. In active sessions with hundreds of turns and large tool outputs (multi-megabyte branches), running multiple synchronous deep clones and comparisons on the main thread during profile binding could cause UI frame drops. Scoping deep serialization to profile family entries and validating branch stability via leaf ID and branch length/shallow IDs would be significantly lighter. -
Parity between
noConversationand Pi's_hasConversation():
Inlib/session-profile-append-controller.ts,noConversationchecks!branch.some(entry => entry.type === "message"). In Pi'sSessionManager, the condition that triggers file creation is specifically:
e.type === "message" && (e.message.role === "user" || e.message.role === "assistant").
Aligning the check to the same roles ensuresnot-persistedpreflush state does not degrade toindeterminateif non-user/assistant message entries exist before the first prompt. -
scopesmap lifecycle:
The module-levelscopesmap retains failed IDs and certified records per session without eviction. Tying cleanup to session shutdown/teardown in slice 4b will keep memory clean in long-running daemon sessions.
The core append and quarantine contracts are clear and thoroughly pinned. Approved from my side.

Labels applied: Same call for 4b: ~376 lines of code are under budget and the fork tests are the direct evidence that makes the slice independently reviewable, so the exception covers that one too. Please carry the justification in its description like you did here. One note for anyone reading the Files tab: the cumulative diff includes #1918/#1919/#1922 until they land, so the slice to review is commit f48770f. |

append-not-corroboratedcatch.The existing tests cover the non-throwing branch. The throw-oriented tests either fail before append, throw from
appendEntry, or enter the failed-append branch. No test makesauthority(after, s)orstable(after)throw after a successful append. Add that case, then assert that a laterrefresh()does not adopt the record after disk recovery. Without this test, the catch can regress without detection.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

@noxsystems #1922 is merged into main now, so the 3b-i stack is yours to move. Heads up that #1948 currently shows conflicts against main, and main has moved quite a bit today, so when you rebase it is probably worth rebasing the whole chain (#1948 → #1984 → #1990 → #1991 → #1992 → #1993) in one pass instead of piecemeal. The Enter-before-flush and append-failure boundaries we confirmed on the issue this week apply to your persistence-outcome handling in |
Address CodeRabbit review on Gentleman-Programming#1948: the controller, disk reader and persistence codec each kept their own copy of the session-profile family prefix check, and the controller re-implemented the reader's own-key candidate metadata check. Export isSessionProfileFamilyEntry from the codec and hasSessionProfileCandidateMetadata from the reader, and use them everywhere.
An append reported as append-not-corroborated was adopted as persisted once the disk recovered, silently changing routing after Enter reported failure. The controller now marks the scope uncertain so only a fresh explicit, corroborated bind or clear recovers. Refs Gentleman-Programming#1064

@barbatdev thanks for the heads up. The whole chain is rebased onto main in one pass (#1948 → #1984 → #1990 → #1991 → #1992 → #1993), and all six are mergeable again. Things that changed beyond a clean replay, so you don't have to hunt for them:
These fixes are squashed into the commits that introduced each problem, so every branch type-checks on its own. Locally: 0 type errors on all six branches, and the full suite shows no failures that main doesn't also have in this environment. CI is green on all six. I'll keep the Enter-before-flush and append-failure boundaries in mind for |
