Why
Plugin users had no instructions for getting a new version. Claude Code auto-updates only Anthropic's official marketplaces, so motion-render stays on the installed version until the user updates it, and
/plugin update motion-renderdoes not exist (it just opens the plugin screen). What changed
An Update section in both READMEs, before Uninstall:
/plugin→ Installed → motion-render → Update now, then restart Claude Code./plugin→ Marketplaces → motion-render → Enable auto-update to get new versions on startup.claude plugin update motion-render@motion-renderfrom a shell.npx skills update motion-render -gfor skills CLI installs.Claude Code only: the README no longer offers the skills CLI as the way for Codex, Cursor and other agents. The skill builds the film with the Artifact and ArtifactData tools (SKILL.md steps 3 and 4), which only Claude Code has. The skills CLI stays as a way to install into Claude Code without the plugin system, and the Requirements table says Claude Code only.
Links: the README now links Claude Motion to its help article, the English page from README.md and the Japanese page from README.ja.md. Step 2 of the install links new pages,
docs/api-key.mdanddocs/api-key.ja.md. They explain how to create a Gemini API key in Google AI Studio, setGEMINI_API_KEY(shell profile or macOS Keychain), check it withcurl, and what the free and paid tiers mean. They are adapted from ai-polish.nvim's guide.Verification
/pluginhas noupdatesubcommand.autoUpdatesetting auto-update only when they are on Anthropic's official list.marketplace.jsonhas no field for it, so the publisher cannot turn it on.claude plugin update motion-render@motion-render: 0.3.0 → 0.4.0.Not verified
The Keychain commands in
docs/api-key*.mdwere not run here (this environment cannot reach the Keychain).Enable auto-update: not clicked. Its existence was read from the CLI code.
npx skills update motion-render -g: not run. It was taken from the skills CLI help.
