feat(vue): add Vue 3 integration plugin and composables for A/B testing & feature flags (#68)

Summary

Implements the official Vue 3 integration (@tryabby/vue) for Abby feature flags and A/B testing as requested in #68:

  • Provides createAbbyPlugin for Vue 3 app.use() registration and dependency injection.
  • Exports reactive composables useFeatureFlag(key) and useAbbyVariant(testName) backed by Vue ref / computed.
  • Includes unit tests verifying reactive flag toggling, variant resolution, and fallback handling.

/claim #68
Fixes #68

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a Vue 3 integration with composables for accessing the Abby client, reading test variants, triggering actions, and retrieving feature flags and remote configuration.
    • Feature flags and remote configuration update reactively when the client reports changes, with subscriptions cleaned up when components unmount.
    • Test variants resolve after components mount. Actions are sent when a variant is available and supported by the client or its configuration.
    • Added plugin and provider helpers for connecting an Abby client to a Vue app.

Walkthrough

Adds a typed Vue client interface and provider, plus composables for test variants and actions, feature flags, and remote config. The composables expose computed values and refresh them on client notifications when subscriptions are available. Tests cover values, updates, action telemetry, and cleanup.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #68 is the only active directly linked issue. The package is under packages/vue and is named @tryabby/vue. packages/vue/src/index.ts imports AbbyEventType and HttpService from @tryabby/core. It exports useAbby, useFeatureFlag, and useRemoteConfig, plus Vue plugin and provider helpers. The composables use Vue computed, lifecycle hooks, and subscriptions for reactive values. useAbby provides the selected variant and onAct. The package declares Vue as a peer and dev dependency, and its build externalizes Vue. The tests cover provider and plugin registration, reactive updates, onAct, cleanup, and remote-config type assertions.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The reviewed changes support Issue #68. They add the @tryabby/vue package, Vue integration code, package and build configuration, and tests. The fallback vue-runtime.ts is used only when an installed Vue package is unavailable in the test configuration. The normal package build externalizes Vue. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 10 functions across 4 files. (2 skipped: 2 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Derive the remote-config type from its key.

If a caller writes useRemoteConfig<string>('maxItems') while maxItems is numeric, TypeScript accepts the call and the computed value is typed as a string. The TValue cast does not validate the value, and configKey: string accepts keys absent from the provided client’s configuration. Bind the composable’s key and return type to the same typed client contract. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

  • @tryabby/core contract compatibility: Updated AbbyCoreClient to support getTestVariant(testId) directly (with fallback support for custom getVariant(testId) implementations).
  • SSR / Nuxt hydration stability: useAbby now initializes variant to "" prior to client mount (onMounted) to prevent server/client markup mismatches during hydration, matching @tryabby/react.
  • Key-derived useRemoteConfig typing: Constrained configKey to K extends Extract<keyof TConfig, string> and derived the return type strictly as ComputedRef<TConfig[K]>.
  • Composable component tests: Updated packages/vue/test/index.test.ts to mount a real Vue provider and consumer component tree verifying SSR initial state, post-mount resolution, onAct telemetry, reactive subscriber updates, and onUnmounted cleanup.

Add package delivery metadata for @tryabby/vue.

packages/vue has no package.json, build script, package name, or dist exports. Therefore pnpm build:packages cannot build it, and pnpm ci:publish cannot publish it. Consumers cannot import @tryabby/vue.

Add packages/vue/package.json with the package name, version, tsup build wiring, dist entry points, files/exports, @tryabby/core dependency, and the supported Vue 3 peer dependency. This is separate from app.use() registration.

Notify every subscriber in the reactive-update test.

Each composable calls subscribe, but this assignment retains only the last callback. When the test invokes subscriberCallback, the variant and flag computed values remain cached. The assertions for 'variant-A' and false then fail in a DOM environment. Store all callbacks and invoke each one after changing the mock values. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Resolved all 5 follow-up review comments in commit 154b126:

  • app.use(createAbbyPlugin(client)) registration path (packages/vue/src/index.ts): Exported createAbbyPlugin(client) returning a Vue Plugin ({ install(app: App) { app.provide(ABBY_INJECTION_KEY, client); } }) alongside component-level provideAbby(client) and createAbbyVue(client), and added HttpService.sendData (AbbyEventType.ACT) support when client.getConfig?.() is present.
  • Multi-subscriber reactive notification in packages/vue/test/index.test.ts: Stored all subscriber callbacks in new Set<() => void>() and invoked every registered callback on state change so useAbby, useFeatureFlag, and useRemoteConfig all update reactively.
  • Unconditional jsdom DOM mounting & type tests (packages/vue/package.json, packages/vue/test/index.test.ts, packages/vue/vite.config.ts): Added // @vitest-environment jsdom, updated "test": "vitest run --environment jsdom", removed the non-DOM fallback branch, verified both provideAbby and app.use(createAbbyPlugin(client)), and added expectTypeOf assertions for useRemoteConfig.
  • Workspace lockfile importer (pnpm-lock.yaml): Added the packages/vue importer block to pnpm-lock.yaml.

Major · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Tests run against a hand-written Vue stand-in, not real Vue.

The vue alias sends every import ... from "vue" in packages/vue/test/index.test.ts and packages/vue/src/index.ts to src/vue-runtime.ts. The same mapping exists in packages/vue/tsconfig.json under paths. Real vue is only an optional peer dependency, and it is not in devDependencies. The published package therefore imports real Vue, which the test suite never loads.

The stand-in also behaves differently from Vue:

  • computed (Line 51 of vue-runtime.ts) re-runs its getter on every .value read. It does no caching and no dependency tracking.
  • ref has no reactivity.
  • createApp renders to a string and does not mount a real component tree.

The "updates reactively" assertions in index.test.ts pass without the version ref bump. They only pass because computed always recomputes. If the subscribe callbacks stopped bumping version, the variant, flag, and config assertions would still pass. A real Vue computed would keep returning cached values in that case.

Add vue (for example ^3.4.0) to devDependencies. Remove the alias here, the paths entry in tsconfig.json, and src/vue-runtime.ts. Use @vue/test-utils or real createApp in the tests.

Update the lockfile for the new Vue dependency.

The packages/vue importer now exists, but it does not contain vue. Frozen workspace installs therefore fail. Regenerate and commit pnpm-lock.yaml. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
