Blend: Ease In / Ease Out and separate Color Ease in Blend Options (#1124) - #2539
Conversation
|
Rebased onto current main. Conflicts in crates/doc/src/lib.rs (kept main's live_paint export and the PR's BlendEase), docs/gaps.md, docs/target-app-parity.md and docs/ui-parity.md were resolved keeping both sides; because main now ships Window › Blend, the docs say easing controls in the Blend panel are missing rather than a dockable panel. A follow-up commit makes object.blend.make's params doc parse under main's new params check and adds the new labels to the nl, da and id catalogs (translations worth a native review). Verified: cargo fmt --check, cargo check --workspace --all-targets, and all tests of vectorcraft-doc, vectorcraft-engine and vectorcraft-ui-egui pass. |

Preserve omitted easing values per selected blend.
object.blend.options resolves omitted easing keys from the first selected blend, then writes those values to every selected blend. This overwrites distinct easing settings when a multi-selection supplies only some easing keys. Resolve omitted keys against each target inside the update loop.

Name the easing that color easing is independent from.
BlendSpec.color_ease is independent of BlendSpec.ease. “Independent of the spacing” can instead refer to the separate step-spacing setting. Use “independent of shape/position easing” to describe the control accurately.

Thanks @vangel76. Not landing this as built: in current Illustrator the easing lives in the Blend panel (a Type menu: Ease In, Ease Out, Ease In Out, Ease Out In, and a Ramp 0–100 %, with a separate colour Shift), not as four sliders in Blend Options. Main now has Window › Blend; it would need redoing there to match. |

Read the source at 0f4be95. BlendEase::apply is a monotone Bézier with fixed ends (bisection, clamped, NaN-safe), and at_eased splits shape/position (t) from colours, strokes, opacity, mesh and text colours (tc) consistently through groups, meshes and text. Rail placement uses the eased t. ease_param rejects out-of-range and non-numeric values before anything is edited, and old files load as even and write no easing keys. The new tests cover the endpoints, monotonicity, colour-versus-position independence, validation, round trip and the dialog preview. FreeBSD x86_64 build and test is green at this head.
Non-blocking: object.blend.options with no blend selected silently ignores easeIn and the other easing keys (the defaults have no easing); a short error there would be friendlier to command callers than dropping them.
|
Reworked to match the Blend panel: the four sliders are gone from Blend Options, and Window > Blend now has a Type menu (Ease In, Ease Out, Ease In Out, Ease Out In), a Ramp of 0 to 100 percent and a separate colour Shift. The commands use easingType, ramp and colorShift. Type and Ramp only act on a blend that has a spine (a replaced one, or Align to Path); Shift always applies. object.blend.options with easing keys and no blend selected now returns an error instead of ignoring them. Merged the current main (docs conflicts only). Locally: cargo check --workspace --all-targets, the doc, engine (including the command sweep) and ui-egui blend and i18n tests pass. I have not yet run cargo xtask ci end to end. |

Keep stroke geometry on positional timing.
When key objects have different stroke widths, changing only colorShift changes the intermediate widths. lerp_appearance uses its timing argument for stroke width, dash, and width profile as well as paint. Line 667 now passes tc for all of them. Pass t for stroke geometry and tc for paint and appearance opacity. Add a regression with different key stroke widths.

Thanks. Both done in a44b5f1: I merged main (the docs conflicts keep both sides), and reading a file now clamps Ramp and Shift to their ranges and maps NaN or non-numeric values to the default, so one bad number no longer stops a document from opening. The commands still refuse such values and leave the blend alone, and there are tests for both. The description now covers the Type menu, Ramp and colour Shift in the Blend panel, and says Type and Ramp apply only with a spine. cargo xtask ci is green on this head. |

Thanks @vangel76, merged (squashed onto main). Checked live: a 5-step blend takes Ease In at a 100 % ramp through |
Closes the easing part of #1124 (the Blend panel's Type menu, Ramp and separate colour Shift, listed under G13). Fixes #1124 only in part: see "Not done".
What changed
BlendSpecgetsease(BlendEase { kind, ramp }) andcolorShift.kindis one of Ease In, Ease Out, Ease In Out, Ease Out In;rampis 0..1 (0 = even spacing);colorShiftis -100..100 (0 = even colours). Defaults are skipped when saving, so old files load unchanged and unchanged blends save the same bytes. When reading a file, an out-of-range value is clamped and a non-finite or non-numeric one becomes the default, so one bad number never stops a document from opening.object.blend.optionsandobject.blend.maketakeeasingType(easeIn,easeOut,easeInOut,easeOutIn),ramp(percent 0..100) andcolorShift(-100..100); omitted ones keep their value. Out-of-range, non-numeric or unknown values are an error and leave the blend alone.object.blend.inforeports them. With nothing selected the defaults carry spacing and orientation only.Behaviour is taken from Adobe's public help (Blend objects) and the 30.7 release announcement; no Adobe software or files were used.
