Follow-ups from #29.

  • Global restore (fix): restore now refuses local: source identities in global scope. Global inventory already distrusted them, so a tampered global quarantine could previously restore a record that the next global plan would then block on. It now fails at restore time. Covered by TestRestoreRejectsLocalIdentityInGlobalScope.
  • Windows test (test): TestDefaultStatusNestedAndUnsafeConfiguration/symlink now skips on Windows when the host cannot create symlinks, matching the existing symlink tests. Linux CI still runs it.

Validation

  • go vet ./... is clean.
  • go test ./... fully passes on the Windows dev host, which previously failed only on that subtest.

Global desired sources are always remote and global inventory already
distrusts `local:` provenance, but restore validated identities without
scope. A tampered global quarantine could therefore restore a record that
the next global plan would treat as untrusted. Restore now uses a
scope-aware check so it fails at restore time instead.

Windows hosts without Developer Mode or elevation cannot create symlinks.
Skip that one subtest there, as the other symlink tests already do, so the
full suite passes locally; Linux CI still exercises it.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Restore operations now validate source identities against their target scope. Local source identities remain valid for project-level restores and are rejected for global restores, preventing invalid provenance from being accepted.
    • Symlink configuration tests now skip when symlink creation fails on Windows; failures for other reasons continue to be reported.

Walkthrough

Restore provenance checks now validate source identities against the transaction scope. The symlink configuration test skips on Windows when symlink creation fails.

Restore Scope Validation

Scope-aware restore provenance validation
internal/sjskills/classify.go, internal/sjskills/project_restore.go, internal/sjskills/local_source_test.go
A new validator checks source identities against the restore scope. Restore validation and state construction use it. Tests cover local and GitHub identities across scopes.

Windows Symlink Test Handling

Windows symlink test skip

The symlink test skips on Windows when symlink creation fails. On other platforms, the existing failure check remains.

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 82562

Restore now rejects local source identities in global scope, as intended. The Windows test skip is broader than needed and could hide unexpected failures in that test, which is a minor risk to test coverage.

Skip the Windows symlink subtest only for ERROR_PRIVILEGE_NOT_HELD so any
other symlink failure still fails the test, and express the scope check
without a negated conjunction.
