The docs never mentioned that every new Agent gets the SandBase tools (sandbase_discover / sandbase_inspect / sandbase_run) by default. They also did not say that sending mcp_connections replaces that default, so users who add their own MCP server lose the SandBase tools without any warning.

  • agents/mcp-tools.md: new section Built-in SandBase tools. It shows the default entry, explains that a list you send replaces it, how to keep it alongside your own servers, that [] means no tools, and that builtin:sandbase requires server_label: "sandbase_builtin".
  • api-reference/agents/create.md: the mcp_connections field description now covers the default. The example response shows the built-in entry, which is what an Agent created without mcp_connections returns.

I checked the behaviour against production on 2026-11-02 for four cases: omitted, [], built-in with the correct label, and built-in with the wrong label (400). sandbase-monorepo#1321 makes that 400 say what to fix.

…tions replaces them

New Agents get builtin:sandbase (server_label sandbase_builtin) by default. A
list you send replaces that default, [] creates an Agent without tools, and the
built-in entry must use the reserved label. The create example response now
shows the default.
