Summary

  • Add a Query Text tab to the shared search editor so criteria can be pasted as a pretty-printed expression or as JSON.
  • Opening the tab reloads the editor from the current term rows. Nothing is applied until Apply to query terms.
  • Expression keeps localized labels and stored values (a picked record stays its id). JSON accepts a criterion array or a REST criteria document, including label, category, comment, and load-by-default when present.

Test plan

  • Open a module search and a picker dialog. Confirm Query Text is the second tab, and that jobs and journal still load.
  • Switch Expression and JSON and confirm the editor rewrites the current terms without changing the term rows.
  • Paste a valid expression and a valid JSON document, apply each, and confirm the term rows match.
  • Paste invalid text and confirm the term rows stay unchanged and an error is shown.
  • Apply an empty editor and confirm one default criterion remains.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a Query Text tab to search criteria, with Expression and JSON formats and an editor for viewing and applying query text.
    • Search criteria can now be represented in either format and applied back to the search.
    • Invalid query text displays validation messages; queries are limited to 60 criteria.

Walkthrough

The change adds expression and JSON formats for search criteria, including parsing, formatting, and a Query Text editor. It also updates generated XMI identifiers and extension metadata in several UML profiles.

Changes

Search query text

Layer / File(s) Summary
Criterion text parsing and formatting
common/.../ServiceExceptionCodes.java, core/.../query/parser/*, core/.../DefaultSettings.java, core/.../SettingCodes.java, core/src/main/resources/ctsms-serviceexceptionmessages*.properties
The parser formats criteria as expressions or JSON and parses either format using criterion catalogs and typed values. A configurable maximum of 60 criteria and related error codes and messages are added.
Search service integration
core/.../SearchServiceImpl.java, core/src/test/java/org/phoenixctms/ctsms/service/shared/test/SearchService_*CriterionTextTest.java
SearchServiceImpl adds handlers for formatting and parsing criterion text. The new test classes contain active tests that fail with not-implemented assertions.
Search bean integration
web/src/main/java/org/phoenixctms/ctsms/web/model/shared/search/SearchBeanBase.java
SearchBeanBase stores the query text and format, loads text from current criteria, and applies parsed text by replacing and normalizing the criteria.
Query Text editor and tab wiring
web/src/main/webapp/META-INF/includes/shared/searchInput.xhtml, web/src/main/webapp/resources/{js/search.js,css/search.css}, web/src/main/resources/org/phoenixctms/ctsms/web/labels*.properties, web/src/main/resources/org/phoenixctms/ctsms/web/messages*.properties
The search page adds a CodeMirror editor, format selector, and apply action. JavaScript loads and synchronizes the editor, and labels and styles support the new tab.

UML profile metadata

Layer / File(s) Summary
Regenerated UML profile metadata
mda/src/main/uml/*.profile.uml
The profiles receive regenerated XMI identifiers and namespace URIs. Some extension associations reorder member-end references; service-profile extensions also gain local, explicitly typed ends.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Values that contain ) are truncated when the expression is parsed back.

toExpression writes each criterion on its own line and does not escape the value (Line 280). On the way back, parseTerm stops reading the value at any ) that follows whitespace. Take a string value such as Smith (Jr ). The parser reads only Smith (Jr as the value. It then sees the remaining ) and creates a separate RIGHT_PARENTHESIS criterion.

The result is that Apply to query terms quietly changes the query, even though the user did not edit the text. This breaks the PR's goal of keeping stored values unchanged. A value that is only ) hits the same problem.

To fix this, stop the value at ) only when the ) is at the end of the line, so the tie on the same line can still close. Alternatively, have toExpression quote or escape these values.

Submit pending query metadata before Apply rerenders it.

If a user edits the query label, category, comment, or default checkbox after opening this tab, Apply does not process those controls. An expression or JSON array supplies no replacement metadata, so the panel update discards the visible edits. Include the metadata controls in process; parsed JSON metadata can still override them in applyQueryText.

JSON output uses the user's date format, so dates can change when another user applies the JSON.

appendJsonValue writes date, time and timestamp values as strings in catalog.userDateFormat. On import, setStringValue first tries the importing user's date format, and only then falls back to fixed ISO patterns in setAlternateValue. A JSON document from a user with dd/MM/yyyy can be pasted by a user with MM/dd/yyyy. Then a value such as 03/04/2024 is read as a different date with no error, and Apply to query terms silently changes the query. This conflicts with the goal of keeping stored values unchanged.

JSON is a format for exchanging data, so it should not depend on the user's locale. Write date, time and timestamp values in fixed ISO patterns: yyyy-MM-dd, HH:mm:ss and yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss. setAlternateValue already reads these patterns. For JSON input, try the ISO patterns before the user's format.

Add permission entries for both query-text methods.

With enable_authorisation=true, AuthorisationInterceptor throws NO_PERMISSIONS when no permission matches the service method. SearchBeanBase.initSets() calls formatCriterionText, and applyQueryText() calls parseCriterionText. If the deployed permission data lacks entries for these new methods, users can see authorization errors instead of loading or applying query text. Add both entries to the permission definitions used to provision the database.

Add permission-definition entries for both query-text service methods,
formatCriterionText and parseCriterionText, so database provisioning grants the
permissions required by SearchBeanBase.initSets() and applyQueryText().

Implement testSuccessPath() before selecting this service test.

The repository’s Surefire helper enables tests with -DskipTests=false and accepts the test selector through -Dtest=$1. When this helper selects SearchService_formatCriterionTextTest, TestNG executes testSuccessPath(), whose first statement is Assert.fail(...). The test therefore fails before it exercises SearchService.formatCriterionText(...).

Remove the unimplemented parseCriterionText test placeholder.

testSuccessPath() calls Assert.fail(...) before it calls parseCriterionText. Any enabled TestNG service-test run therefore fails this test and does not exercise parsing. This placeholder is independent of the corresponding formatCriterionText test.

remove the Assert import only if it is unused afterward.
