Peeklings are small animated characters that can join a website quietly, playfully, and without getting in the way. Come meet them, imagine your own, or help us build what comes next.
A Peekling is a small animated companion with its own look, personality, and way of responding to the page around it. It lives alongside a website, adding a little life while letting the page stay itself.
Behind the characters, Peekling is an open-source browser runtime for small, data-only animated characters. It helps them move and react without sending telemetry or page data to a backend.
The pieces have clear jobs. The engine loads and renders. A Pack holds the character's artwork and capabilities. A developer-owned Plan decides when it reacts. Skills guide the developers and artists who create, integrate, review, and share it.
- One engine, many surfaces. The same runtime can bring a Peekling to a website, a future desktop app, or a browser extension.
- Characters are data, not code. Packs contain artwork and validated animation data. They cannot run scripts or take over a host page.
- The host stays in control. Developers choose the Pack, Plan, policy, and presentation. Visitors can let every Peekling rest without an account or backend.
- No telemetry, no backend. The runtime does its work in the browser. Projects can use pinned packages or self-host the files.
- Skills are portable folders. Each workflow lives in a
SKILL.mdfolder that developers and artists can use with compatible agents. - Licenses are explicit. The runtime, tooling, official Packs, and skills use Apache-2.0. Each Pack declares the rights for its artwork.
Whether you came to meet the characters, learn something new, draw, write, animate, code, teach, build for a company, or simply see what is taking shape, we are glad you found us.
- Students and first-time makers can experiment with portfolios or side projects.
- Artists and writers can imagine new personalities.
- Developers can bring interactions to life.
- Companies can help make digital spaces feel more human.
- People who simply enjoy having a small companion around are every bit as much a part of the picture.
Whatever brings you here, curiosity is enough to begin.
You do not need to arrive with code or a finished idea. Pick the part that feels like home:
- Build the runtime in peekling-engine.
- Improve an official character in peekling-characters.
- Share a community-created character in awesome-peeklings.
- Create a workflow for developers or artists in peekling-skills.
- Help shape the future desktop app in peekling-desktop, coming soon.
- Bring Peeklings into Chrome in peekling-chrome-extension, coming soon.
Star the projects you want to see grow. Issues, focused pull requests, character ideas, art, stories, and documentation all help.

Peek is the first Peekling. Curious and cheerful, Peek follows pointers and celebrates small wins.
A Peekling is a small character that can live around a website: quietly, playfully, and without getting in the way.
You can create a Peekling of your own, share it with the community, and add it to your website. Start with the community Pack guide.
Peekling is growing one public piece at a time. As more pieces become available, we want the journey to feel natural: meet a character, get to know it, try it, add it to a website, make it your own, and share what you learn with the community.
Some parts of that journey are still ahead. We will introduce them only when they are ready, and each public piece should make it easier for the next person to join in.
Peekling is open source and licensed under Apache 2.0.
