A public archive of clean transcripts from The Pathless Path, organized for easy browsing, website publishing, and use with AI tools.
The Pathless Path is Paul Millerd's podcast about work, meaning, reinvention, freedom, family, and building a life beyond the default script. Across the archive, Paul talks with writers, founders, philosophers, creators, freelancers, parents, and thoughtful wanderers trying to make sense of modern work and a good life.
I've set up AI search of the podcast on my own page: Pathless Path Podcast running on Cloudflare Workers. When someone asks a question, a Worker uses bge-large-en-v1.5 to understand the meaning of the question and find the most relevant transcript excerpts in Cloudflare Vectorize, then it sends those excerpts to @cf/meta/llama-4-scout-17b-16e-instruct to generate a short readable answer grounded in the actual podcast transcript.
Note: still not an ideal tool, probably need to upgrade the models

Each episode lives in its own folder as a standalone Markdown file:
- YAML frontmatter with structured metadata
- a transcript title
- speaker-labeled transcript text with timestamps
The committed archive focuses on the final readable Markdown transcripts. Raw audio, temporary files, and provider JSON outputs are intentionally not included in the public repo.
Each transcript now includes YAML frontmatter with fields such as:
slugtitleepisode_numberpublish_datepublished_ataudio_urlepisode_urlsummarydescriptionprimary_themethemestheme_slugshostguestsspeakerstranscription_backendtranscription_modelclip_timestampsremoved_boilerplate
That makes each transcript easier to parse directly, without needing to join back to the site catalog first.
The archive currently emphasizes the metadata we can source reliably from the podcast feed and the transcript pipeline itself. It does not currently include YouTube-specific fields like youtube_url, video_id, view_count, or channel, because this archive is anchored to the podcast feed rather than a YouTube crawl.
The archive currently uses a compact editorial theme system so episodes can live in multiple buckets:
- Leaving the Default Path
- Building Independent Work
- Creative Work & Writing
- Meaning, Spirituality, and Inner Life
- Money, Enough, and Financial Freedom
- Vagabonding & Digital Nomad Life
- Family, Relationships & Parenting
- Learning & Education
- Burnout, Health, and Healing
- Modern Organizations
- Finding The Others
- Technology & Media
The current theme index and episode counts live in data/site/theme_taxonomy.md.
This repo currently includes 193 canonical episode transcripts.
Replay and repost duplicates from the feed are excluded from the canonical archive and from the site catalog by default. Those excluded entries are documented in:
This archive is designed to be easy to use with coding assistants, local scripts, RAG pipelines, and language models:
- transcripts are plain Markdown
- each episode is a standalone file
- transcripts include YAML frontmatter for structured metadata
- transcripts are already speaker-organized and cleaned
- site metadata is available as CSV and JSON
- episode themes and summaries are precomputed
If you want to build on top of this, the best starting files are:
- data/site/canonical_episode_catalog.json
- data/site/episode_summary_list.md
- data/site/theme_taxonomy.md
Each transcript is a standalone Markdown file that can be easily parsed by AI systems. The YAML frontmatter provides structured metadata that can be extracted programmatically.
import yaml
def read_transcript(filepath):
with open(filepath, "r") as f:
content = f.read()
parts = content.split("---", 2)
if len(parts) >= 3:
frontmatter = yaml.safe_load(parts[1])
transcript = parts[2].strip()
return frontmatter, transcript
return None, content
metadata, transcript = read_transcript(
"data/transcripts/2025-09-08-the-yoga-of-work-andrew-taggart/transcript_clean.md"
)
print(f"Title: {metadata['title']}")
print(f"Primary theme: {metadata['primary_theme']}")
print(f"Guests: {metadata['guests']}")For bulk processing, use the site catalog JSON as the metadata index and the transcript Markdown files as the long-form source text.
The scripts in scripts handle transcription cleanup and site catalog generation:
./.venv/bin/python scripts/pathless_path_pipeline.py run --limit 5
./.venv/bin/python scripts/build_site_catalog.pyThe transcription pipeline currently supports:
- AssemblyAI for cloud transcription with diarization
- local MLX Whisper as a fallback path on Apple Silicon
- Podcast audio and metadata come from the official Pathless Path podcast feed
- Transcripts in this repo were generated from those source episodes, then cleaned and speaker-organized locally
If you build something with this archive, open a PR and add it here.
Possible directions:
- semantic search
- quote extraction
- topic maps
- guest pages
- idea graphs
- AI chat or MCP tools grounded in the transcripts
