Summary

This Netlify site is a retired copy of the docs. It still builds the Next.js app, so crawlers render old pages and drive function usage.

  • Publish a static site that 301-redirects every path to the same path on https://docs.novu.co, including the query string.
  • Skip the Next.js build and set NETLIFY_NEXT_PLUGIN_SKIP=true so Netlify does not publish serverless or edge functions when it auto-detects Next.js.
  • Keep /robots.txt crawlable and omit a sitemap, so crawlers can observe the redirects without being handed the old URL list.
  • Send X-Robots-Tag: noindex, nofollow on files this host still serves. Netlify does not attach custom headers to the 301 responses; those URLs are retired by the redirect itself.

Test plan

  • Local Netlify dev (netlify dev --offline, static framework) returns 301 to https://docs.novu.co/... for /, /platform/inbox?utm=crawler, /sitemap.xml, and POST /api/example
  • /robots.txt returns 200 with Allow: /, no sitemap, and X-Robots-Tag: noindex, nofollow
  • After deploy, the production Netlify hostname shows the same redirects and the deploy log does not install or invoke the Next.js runtime

The PR appears safe to merge with the redirect-header limitation accepted as intentional.

Summary

The PR replaces the retired Netlify docs app with a static redirect site.

  • The retired docs host sends old paths to the live docs site.
  • Netlify publishes a static redirect site without the Next.js runtime.

Stop building the Next.js app on Netlify so crawlers no longer render old pages, and send every path except robots.txt to https://docs.novu.co with a 301 and noindex.

The 301 responses retire the old URLs. The header only covers files this host still serves, such as robots.txt.

The dev server writes .netlify while checking redirects, and that directory should stay out of the repo.
