The modver check fails before it compares anything: the pinned bobg/modver action cannot read the export data from the current Go toolchain ("export data version 5 is greater than maximum supported version 4" while importing the standard library). The failure is unrelated to this change. (Claude Opus 5.5, on Greg's behalf) |

Format the new changelog entries. The precious lint --all pipeline fails because Prettier rejects CHANGELOG.md. Run the reported Prettier write command and include the resulting formatting changes.

The metadata response gives the MD5 of one database build. Requesting the download by date returns the latest build of that day, so a build published between the two requests causes a checksum mismatch. Request the download by the build_epoch from the metadata instead. The server always sends build_epoch, so the date request is gone. Metadata without build_epoch is now an error. Without the check, the request would send build_epoch=0, and the server would return its latest build. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>
download closes the response body and the gzip reader in deferred functions that check err. A non-200 status returned a new error without assigning err. The tar loop declared a new err that hid the outer one. In both cases the deferred closes did nothing, and the connection leaked. Make err a named result, so every error return sets it. geoipupdate now identifies the database to download by its build epoch rather than its date. The download request sends the
build_epochfrom the metadata response. A request by date returns the latest build of that day, so a new build published during an update could cause a checksum mismatch. The date request is gone. If the metadata has no
build_epoch, the update fails with an error. Without that check, the client would sendbuild_epoch=0, and the server would return its latest build. This needs STF-295 deployed first. Today production does not sendbuild_epoch.The second commit fixes an existing leak.
downloaddid not close the response body on a non-200 status, or on a tar archive without an.mmdbfile.erris now a named result, so the deferred closes see every error.TestDownloadnow checks that no response body stays open after a failed download.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
