A tiny local-network file sharing tool. Send files between devices on the same Wi-Fi without cloud uploads or accounts.
Python 3.9+ required. No pip installs.
- Extract this ZIP.
- Run
START_GHOSTDROP.bat(Windows), orpython ghostdrop.py. - The browser opens on your computer.
- On another device connected to the same Wi-Fi, open the
Same Wi-FiURL printed in the terminal. - Choose/drop a file and press Send file. Received files are stored in
shared/.
The first run may ask Windows Firewall for permission. Allow Python on Private networks so other devices on your Wi-Fi can connect.
If another device cannot connect:
- Confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi (guest Wi-Fi may isolate devices).
- Allow TCP port
8765for Private networks. - Keep the GhostDrop terminal running.
- Transfers are limited to 500 MB per file.
- Files are stored in the
sharedfolder on the computer running GhostDrop. - This is a simple trusted-LAN tool, not encrypted. Use it only on a network you trust; don't expose port 8765 to the internet.
- Existing files are never overwritten; duplicate names get
(1),(2), etc. - Stop the server with
Ctrl+C.
