Add Streamlit UI for network inspectors - #157
cpaniaguam wants to merge 1 commit into
Conversation
Rebuild the network inspector UI work from add-ui-network-inspectors-clean-base-102 onto current main instead of merging, since the old branch had diverged too far (~35 conflicting files) to merge cleanly. - network_inspectors: result contracts, compute/plot split, Streamlit app and styles; network-inspectors-ui launcher - ui extra (streamlit); all extra defined via the other extras; streamlit added to the dev group so `uv sync --all-groups` covers the tests - CI installs the ui extra - Docs: tutorial in nav, CLI reference entry, new API exports - test_docs_api_reference: treat CLI modules without a Typer main() as option-less pass-through launchers Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <[email protected]>

🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Bound the recursive model scan, because it runs on every rerun.
_available_models(base_dir) runs on every Streamlit rerun, so every slider or input change calls it. _model_directories calls model_root.rglob("*") without a depth limit and sorts the full result. If a user enters a broad directory such as ~, /, or a large data root, each interaction scans the whole tree. The UI then blocks for seconds or minutes. Limit the search depth, which the flat and nested layouts in the tests need only up to about two or three levels. As an alternative, cache the scan per base_dir with a short TTL.

### Summary
Resizing is disabled for dataframes with `width="content" in 1.51.0.
This is a known change that is introduced with the fix for `horizontal_alignment` with content width dataframes.
The restriction is added because content width dataframes have a conflict with the logic that is in place to handle the max size for resizing dataframes. This was previously solved by wrapping the dataframe in a 100% width container, but this broke `horizontal_alignment`. Without being able to calculate the max size, the dataframe becomes resizable beyond its enclosing container. For this reason, resizing is disabled in all but the root container for content width dataframes as a trade-off. If this is blocking you, please upvote the issue! We use the issue votes to help prioritize our work. We understand the details of this bug, but want to understand the impact on users before investing in a fix.

It does not support some of the more exotic pandas styling features, like bar charts, hovering, and captions.
width (int or None) | Desired width of the dataframe expressed in pixels. If `width` is `None` (default), Streamlit sets the dataframe width to fit its contents up to the width of the parent container. If `width` is greater than the width of the parent container, Streamlit sets the dataframe width to match the width of the parent container.
height (int or None) | Desired height of the dataframe expressed in pixels. If `height` is `None` (default), Streamlit sets the height to show at most ten rows. Vertical scrolling within the dataframe element is enabled when the height does not accomodate all rows.
use_container_width (bool) | Whether to override `width` with the width of the parent container. If `use_container_width` is `False` (default), Streamlit sets the dataframe's width according to `width`. If `use_container_width` is `True`, Streamlit sets the width of the dataframe to match the width of the parent container.
hide_index (bool or None) | Whether to hide the index column(s). If `hide_index` is `None` (default), the visibility of index columns is automatically determined based on the data.

# Column configuration
When working with data in Streamlit, the `st.column_config` class is a powerful tool for configuring data display and interaction. Specifically designed for the `column_config` parameter in `st.dataframe` and `st.data_editor`, it provides a suite of methods to tailor your columns to various data types - from simple text and numbers to lists, URLs, images, and more.
Whether it's translating temporal data into user-friendly formats or utilizing charts and progress bars for clearer data visualization, column configuration not only provides the user with an enriched data viewing experience but also ensures that you're equipped with the tools to present and interact with your data, just the way you want it.

width ("small", "medium", "large", int, or None) | The display width of the column. If this is `None` (default), the column will be sized to fit the cell contents. Otherwise, this can be one of the following:
* `"small"`: 75px wide
* `"medium"`: 200px wide
* `"large"`: 400px wide
* An integer specifying the width in pixels
If the total width of all columns is less than the width of the dataframe, the remaining space will be distributed evenly among all columns.
help (str or None) | A tooltip that gets displayed when hovering over the column label. If this is `None` (default), no tooltip is displayed. The tooltip can optionally contain GitHub-flavored Markdown, including the Markdown directives described in the `body` parameter of `st.markdown`.
disabled (bool or None) | Whether editing should be disabled for this column. If this is `None` (default), Streamlit will enable editing wherever possible. If a column has mixed types, it may become uneditable regardless of `disabled`.
required (bool or None) | Whether edited cells in the column need to have a value. If this is `False` (default), the user can submit empty values for this column. If this is `True`, an edited cell in this column can only be submitted if its value is not `None`, and a new row will only be submitted after the user fills in this column.

## Version 1.52.0
Release date: December 3, 2025
Highlights
* 📅 Introducing `st.datetime_input` to set date and time in a single widget.
* 📩 To avoid blocking your script, you can pass a callable to `st.download_button` for on-demand download generation (#12942, #5053).
* 🎤 `st.chat_input` can optionally accept audio input (#12836, #13054).
Notable Changes
* 🎹 You can configure keyboard shortcuts for buttons (#12975, #1291).
* ❓ You can now pass query parameters to `st.switch_page` and `st.page_link` (#13027, #8102, #8112, #13093).
* 🕳️ You can configure placeholder text for null values in `st.dataframe` and `st.data_editor` with a new `placeholder` parameter (#12968, #7360).
* 🔑 To prevent widgets from resetting when you change a parameter, widgets are transitioning to an identity based only on their keys (if provided). The following widgets use only their key for their identity:
* `st.file_uploader`
* `st.camera_input`
* ↕️ `st.plotly_chart` has a height parameter to use with flex containers (#12593).
* ↔️ `st.container`, `st.dataframe`, and `st.data_editor` support `width="content"` (#12848, #12875, #12391).
* 🐍 Streamlit supports Python 3.14 and Vega-Altair 6!
* 👻 `st.bokeh_chart` has been removed. Use the `streamlit-bokeh` custom component instead.
* ☠️ `**kwargs` is deprecated in `st.vega_lite_chart` (#13141).
* 💩 The `.add_rows()` method is under consideration for removal. Please leave feedback (#13063).
* 👥 We're improving community contributions by using a public workflow for discussing feature specs (#12248).
Other Changes
* 🪥 For better performance, Streamlit uses `uvloop` if it's installed (#13047).
* 🧼 For improved performance, Markdown plugins are lazy loaded (#13152).
* 💬 `st.dialog` widths have a larger option (#12040, #8904).
* 💻 `st.dataframe` and `st.data_editor` have `width` and `height` to use with flex layouts (#11930).
* 🖼️ `st.image`, `st.pyplot`, and `st.graphviz_chart` have a `width` parameter to use them with flex layouts (#11952, #12212).
* 📈 Users can access the underlying data of a Vega chart through the toolbar. This includes all data passed to the chart, even if it's not displayed (#10311).
* ☠️ `st.bokeh_chart` is deprecated. Use the `streamlit-bokeh` custom component instead.
* 🧹 We removed deprecated commands and parameters: `st.experimental_dialog`, `st.experimental_fragment`, and caching's `experimental_allow_widgets` (#12167).
Other Changes
* 🏃♂️ For better performance, `st.slider` will not rerun the app until the user releases the slider thumb (#11879, #4541).

### Checklist

* [Input] I added a very descriptive title to this issue.
* [Input] I have provided sufficient information below to help reproduce this issue.

I think this may be an issue with the docs (cc @sfc-gh-dmatthews), `width="content"` was merged just as the release for 1.51.0 was happening and didn't make the cutoff so it is not included in 1.51.0 https://github.com/streamlit/streamlit/releases/tag/1.51.0
If you want to try it out before the next release, you could use one of the nightly builds https://github.com/streamlit/streamlit/releases/tag/1.51.1.dev20251105

## st.number_input
Display a numeric input widget.
Note
Integer values exceeding +/- `(1<<53) - 1` cannot be accurately stored or returned by the widget due to serialization contstraints between the Python server and JavaScript client. You must handle such numbers as floats, leading to a loss in precision.
Function signature[source]
---
st.number_input(label, min_value=None, max_value=None, value="min", step=None, format=None, key=None, help=None, on_change=None, args=None, kwargs=None, *, placeholder=None, disabled=False, label_visibility="visible")
---
Parameters
label (str) | A short label explaining to the user what this input is for. The label can optionally contain GitHub-flavored Markdown of the following types: Bold, Italics, Strikethroughs, Inline Code, and Links. Unsupported Markdown elements are unwrapped so only their children (text contents) render. Display unsupported elements as literal characters by backslash-escaping them. E.g., `"1\. Not an ordered list"`. See the `body` parameter of `st.markdown` for additional, supported Markdown directives. </excerpt>

If `icon` is `None` (default), no icon is displayed. If `icon` is a string, the following options are valid:
* A single-character emoji. For example, you can set `icon="🚨"` or `icon="🔥"`. Emoji short codes are not supported.
* An icon from the Material Symbols library (rounded style) in the format `":material/icon_name:"` where "icon_name" is the name of the icon in snake case. For example, `icon=":material/thumb_up:"` will display the Thumb Up icon. Find additional icons in the Material Symbols font library.
width ("stretch" or int) | The width of the number input widget. This can be one of the following:
* `"stretch"` (default): The width of the widget matches the width of the parent container.
* An integer specifying the width in pixels: The widget has a fixed width. If the specified width is greater than the width of the parent container, the width of the widget matches the width of the parent container.
Returns
(int or float or None) | The current value of the numeric input widget or `None` if the widget is empty. The return type will match the data type of the value parameter.
#### Example
Python
`import streamlit as st
number = st.number_input("Insert a number")
st.write("The current number is ", number)`
Copy
iframe
Built with Streamlit 🎈
Fullscreen open_in_new
To initialize an empty number input, use `None` as the value:
Python
`import streamlit as st
number = st.number_input(
"Insert a number", value=None, placeholder="Type a number..."
)
st.write("The current number is ", number)`

This controls whether or not Streamlit reruns the app when the user interacts with the date input. `on_change` can be one of the following: ... * An integer specifying the width in pixels: The widget has a fixed width.
format (str) | A format string controlling how the interface should display dates. Supports `"YYYY/MM/DD"` (default), `"DD/MM/YYYY"`, or `"MM/DD/YYYY"`. You may also use a period (.) or hyphen (-) as separators.
disabled (bool) | An optional boolean that disables the date input if set to `True`. The default is `False`.
label_visibility ("visible", "hidden", or "collapsed") | The visibility of the label. The default is `"visible"`. If this is `"hidden"`, Streamlit displays an empty spacer instead of the label, which can help keep the widget aligned with other widgets. If this is `"collapsed"`, Streamlit displays no label or spacer.
width ("stretch" or int) | The width of the date input widget. This can be one of the following:

bind ("query-params" or None) | Binding mode for syncing the widget's value with a URL query parameter. If this is `None` (default), the widget's value is not synced to the URL. When this is set to `"query-params"`, changes to the widget update the URL, and the widget can be initialized or updated through a query parameter in the URL. This requires `key` to be set. The key is used as the query parameter name. When the widget's value equals its default, the query parameter is removed from the URL to keep it clean. A bound query parameter can't be set or deleted through `st.query_params`; it can only be programmatically changed through `st.session_state`. Invalid query parameter values are ignored and removed from the URL. If `value` is `None`, an empty query parameter (e.g., `?my_key=`) clears the widget.
Returns
(int or float or None) | The current value of the numeric input widget or `None` if the widget is empty. The return type will match the data type of the value parameter.

Raise the Streamlit floor to 1.52.0 for width="content" support.
Streamlit 1.51.1 raises StreamlitInvalidWidthError for the "content" value. Streamlit 1.52.0 added support for this value. The declared streamlit>=1.40.0 range therefore admits releases that can fail on the dataframe paths at lines 207, 283, and 322. Use the same floor for the ui, all, and dev dependency groups.
The st.number_input(width=160) call uses the integer pixel form. Do not include the independent st.plotly_chart deprecation in this change.

Raise the Streamlit minimum version from 1.40.0 to 1.52.0 consistently in the
ui, all, and dev dependency groups so dataframe paths using width="content" are
supported; leave the integer-width st.number_input call and unrelated
st.plotly_chart deprecation unchanged.

🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Close the Matplotlib figure after rendering.
build_kde_vs_lan_figure creates the figure with plt.subplots. plt.subplots registers the figure in the global pyplot manager. st.pyplot(..., clear_figure=True) clears the figure contents, but the figure stays registered. The Streamlit server process is long-lived, so every "Run KDE vs LAN" click leaks one figure for every session. After 20 runs, Matplotlib warns about too many open figures. Memory keeps growing until the server restarts. plot_kde_vs_lan already calls plt.close(fig); apply the same cleanup here.

Close the Matplotlib figure created by build_kde_vs_lan_figure after rendering
it with st.pyplot, using cleanup that runs even if rendering fails; import
pyplot as plt and apply the same plt.close(fig) cleanup pattern used by
plot_kde_vs_lan.
