fix(rldm): give the angle LAN -1/1 choices for 0/1 responses - #1454
Map the response to -1/1 (response > 0 is the upper boundary) before building the LAN matrix, as the Q-value index already does. -1/1 data keep the same sum and parameter gradients.
Docstring: data is [rt, response], coded 0/1 or -1/1.
Tests: new 0/1 and -1/1 test against a NumPy Rescorla-Wagner recursion with the LAN fed -1/1. Pinned sums re-derived (-6879.15 -> -6618.57, the value given in the issue). test_rl_likelihood_builder.py recodes its fixture to -1/1; the builder is unchanged.
Behaviour change: a NaN response now counts as the lower boundary (the log-likelihood was NaN), and extra data columns are ignored (they raised a shape error).
Not in this PR: hssm.rl passes data through, so an RLSSM registered with decision_process="angle" and choices=[0, 1] still sends choice 0 to the LAN (-6879.15 on the same fixture and parameters). I can open a separate issue.
The issue also offers deprecating this module instead, since nothing in src/ calls it. If you prefer that, I will close this PR.
RLDM likelihoods now consistently map positive responses to the upper boundary and nonpositive responses to the lower boundary, supporting both 0/1 and -1/1 response coding.
NaN responses map to the lower boundary. Recompute likelihoods previously evaluated with 0/1 response data, as results may change.
Documentation
Updated the changelog and likelihood input documentation to describe response coding and boundary mapping.
…wn#1399)
make_rldm_logp_func passed the raw response column to the angle LAN, so
data coded 0/1 reached the network with choice 0, while angle_config
declares choices [-1, 1]. Map the response to -1/1 before building the LAN
matrix, as the Q-value index already does since lnccbrown#1419.
-1/1 data keep the same sum and the same parameter gradients. A NaN
response now counts as the lower boundary instead of giving a NaN
log-likelihood.
Add a test of both codings against a NumPy Rescorla-Wagner recursion, and
re-derive the pinned sums (-6879.15 -> -6618.57, the value given in the
issue). The RL builder tests recode their fixture to -1/1; the builder
itself is unchanged. State the [rt, response] order in the docstring.

Walkthrough
The legacy RLDM likelihood now sends reaction time and a separately mapped -1/1 response choice to the angle LAN. Documentation, changelog entries, and tests reflect the mapping and updated likelihood values.
Changes: RLDM likelihood response mapping
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Document and apply LAN response mapping src/hssm/likelihoods/rldm_optimized.py, docs/changelog.md
The logp documentation describes reaction time followed by response, and accepts 0/1 or -1/1 response coding. The LAN input receives reaction time separately and maps positive responses to 1 and other values to -1. The changelog records the mapping and recommends recomputing likelihoods previously evaluated on 0/1 data.
Test fixtures and expected summed likelihoods are updated. A parameterized test checks that response values with lower codes 0 and -1 produce likelihoods matching the LAN’s -1/1 choices.
lnccbrown/HSSM#1419: It maps responses to arm indices for Q-value updates, complementing this PR’s separate response mapping for the angle LAN.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review aff60
This fixes the legacy RLDM likelihood so 0/1 data reach the angle network with the correct choice coding. The migration note could say that models fitted with the old likelihood should be refit, not only that likelihoods should be recomputed. This is a small documentation follow-up and should not block merge.

Explanation
[#1399] The reviewed head meets the coding requirements of the linked issue. (1) LAN choice: src/hssm/likelihoods/rldm_optimized.py builds choice = jnp.where(action > 0, 1.0, -1.0) and passes it as the last LAN column, so the LAN receives -1/1 for 0/1 and -1/1 input. The LAN column order is v, a, z, t, theta, rt, choice, which matches the issue. (2) Q-value index: compute_v_trial_wise maps action = jnp.astype(action > 0, jnp.int32) before indexing q_val, so -1 and 1 no longer wrap to the same index. Index 0 and 1 are both reachable with 0/1 and -1/1 input. (3) Docstring: make_rldm_logp_func.logp now states that data is [rt, response] and may be coded 0/1 or -1/1. (4) Tests: tests/unit/likelihoods/test_rldm_optimized.py pins -6618.5674 in both tests. A new parameterized test compares the logp output for 0/1 and -1/1 input with a NumPy Rescorla-Wagner reference and the LAN fed -1/1. (5) tests/rl/test_rl_likelihood_builder.py fixture is recoded to -1/1 and its expected values are updated to -6618.57. The builder is unchanged. I did not execute the tests. This result rests on source reading and the reported test run. The hssm.rl path with decision_process='angle' is not part of this issue's requirements. The issue describes that path as avoiding the problem. The deprecation option is an alternative, not a requirement.

Explanation
All changed code connects to #1399. The changes are limited to: src/hssm/likelihoods/rldm_optimized.py (response mapping for LAN and Q-index, docstring); tests/unit/likelihoods/test_rldm_optimized.py (updated pinned sums, new coding test, ONNX factory import used by that test); tests/rl/test_rl_likelihood_builder.py (fixture recoded to -1/1, pinned sums updated); and docs/changelog.md (one changelog entry that documents this behaviour change). The NaN and extra-column behaviour changes are direct consequences of the new mapping and are documented in the PR description. No unrelated functional change was found in the reviewed diff.
