What

A console-style pass on the Console (10-foot) interface, closer to a current home console and with less repetition:

  • Home: the launchers (Steam Big Picture, Playnite, Xbox mode; the custom app joins when it lands) sit in a row of square tiles at the top, each with its own colour and glyph and a dot on the one that opens today. A on a tile picks it. Below, the launcher name in large light type, where you will play, one meta line (resolution · audio · FPS · HDR · VRR) and a pill-shaped Play now, plus a round button that opens Session. The "Current setup" cards are gone from Home (they duplicated Session).
  • Background: the art (Steam covers / your image) stays visible on the right and fades to black on the left and at the bottom, where the text is.
  • Top bar: tabs on the left next to the icon, with LB/RB around them; the bottom hint bar drops its LB/RB "Tabs" hint.
  • System: a category rail on the left (the existing section names) and only that category's options on the right. Moving over a category shows it; A/right goes in; left/B goes back to that category (GettingFocus redirect), and closing a picker returns to the row that opened it. Background/sounds moved to App, "Close Steam" to Entering console mode.
  • Shared styles (App.xaml): tiles and rows without hairlines, rounder corners, pill Play button. The session menu inherits the look through ConsoleCard.
  • Pure LaunchArt (glyph + colours per launcher) with tests.

How it was checked

  • dotnet test: 424 passed. The app build is left to CI (Windows).
  • An HTML mockup of the target look was reviewed before the XAML.
  • Manual checks for a real PC in docs/TESTING.md → "Interface Console no estilo console (1.7.0)".

Home is now a row of launcher tiles over the game art with one pill
Play button; the tabs move to the left of the top bar; the System tab
becomes a category rail with only that category's options on the right.
Shared console styles drop the hairlines and use rounder corners.

Reviewed changes The console Home redesign, launcher selection model and artwork, category-based System settings layout and controller focus handling, shared styles, tests, documentation, and manual test checklist.

  • Home and Session: Home now presents launcher tiles over the existing background with a focused launch action; Session quick-setting cards use square styling.
  • System settings: The settings view groups the existing options into eight categories and adds category navigation plus focus restoration for options and overlays.
  • Supporting changes: Shared console styles and LaunchArt add the visual treatment, with unit tests; changelog, guide, and manual test documentation are updated.

Reviewed changes The delta since the prior Pullfrog review merges main's custom-app integration and exposes its executable picker in the console System settings.

  • Custom-app selection Added the custom-app launch mode to the Home launcher options and a conditional executable-path row under When entering console mode; the row invokes the existing picker and reflects the current path.
  • Release notes and guide Integrated the custom-app and diagnostics notes into the changelog and updated the console settings guide.
