HomeGlow is your self-hosted, subscription-free smart home dashboard — built specifically for touch displays like wall-mounted tablets, Raspberry Pi setups, or living-room screens.
Think of it as a beautiful, always-on family command center:
- Shared family calendar
- Kid-friendly chores with rewards
- Family photos from your own library
- Local weather at a glance
- …and fully customizable widgets
All running locally on your hardware — no cloud accounts, no monthly fees, no tracking.
- 100% Self-Hosted — Your data stays on your network
- Touch-First Design — Drag, resize, swipe — perfect for fingers, not just mice
- No Subscriptions — Unlike many commercial alternatives
- Modular Widgets — Enable/disable/rearrange exactly what your family needs
- Dark/Light Mode — Auto or manual, for the household, with a per-display override
- Open Source — MIT licensed, actively developed, community welcome!
- Calendar: month and week views of several calendars. Public ICS links, CalDAV, iCloud (read-only) and Google (two-way sync). Duplicates across calendars are merged into one event.
- Chores & Rewards: chores for each family member, with clams to earn and prizes to spend them on. Due dates, due-time sounds, expiring chores, follow-up chores and bonus chores. Routines are checklists of steps a child ticks off, with streak rewards.
- Photos: a slideshow or grid from your Immich library, a Google Photos selection, or photos uploaded from a phone.
- Weather: current conditions and a three-day forecast, from OpenWeatherMap or your Home Assistant.
- Home Assistant: build panels of your devices' buttons and readings, with no code.
- Plugins: install widgets from the HomeGlowPlugins repository, or write your own HTML widget.
- Displays: each display has its own tabs, layout, screensaver and touch settings. Light, dark or automatic themes are set for the household, with a per-display override.
- Phones: notifications when chores are done, through the browser, the ntfy app or the Home Assistant app, and a mobile layout.
- Admin Panel: an admin PIN, controls that hide parent options on wall displays, and backup & restore.
- How-To Guide: how to use HomeGlow and each of its features
- Installing: Docker, Proxmox, and first-time setup
- Live Demo: try it right now (default widgets & layout)
- Demo Mode: what the demo shows, and how to run your own
- Google Calendar Syncing: connect Google Calendar and Google Photos
- Full GitHub Repository: source code, issues, releases
- Project Website: more screenshots & overview
- Discord Community: chat, share setups, get help, suggest features
