feat(linux): auto-sample X11 cursor telemetry when portal metadata is missing - #1416
On X11 + Xvfb hosts the ScreenCast portal often has no METADATA cursor mode, so editable-cursor takes used to write no sidecar. This PR samples the pointer automatically during record (Electron screen.getCursorScreenPoint(), then xdotool / xev / xinput / libinput) and writes version-2 <video>.cursor.json next to the take. openscreen export --auto-zoom then works with no extra import step.
Also adds openscreen cursor import for an external ffmpeg/x11grab CSV track.
Added cursor import to create cursor data for videos from mouse-movement CSV files and optional click timestamps, with support for custom output paths and dimensions.
Linux X11 recordings can capture cursor movement and clicks when the portal cannot provide cursor telemetry. If native capture cannot start, recording can fall back to browser capture.
Cursor data from Linux recordings now accounts for paused capture periods.
Documentation
Updated CLI and Linux recording guidance, including import options and X11 sampling behavior.
Clarified that browser-fallback recordings may include the OS cursor in the video.
… missing
On X11 (including Xvfb cloud agents) the ScreenCast portal often has no
METADATA cursor mode, so editable-cursor takes used to write no sidecar.
Sample the pointer via Electron/xdotool/xev during record, write the
version-2 <video>.cursor.json next to the take, and add
`openscreen cursor import` for an external CSV. export --auto-zoom then
works with no extra step.
The change adds X11 pointer and button sampling for Linux cursor sidecars, recording integration for editable-overlay mode, and a CLI command that converts mouse CSV data and optional click timestamps into version-2 sidecars.
The importer parses mouse rows and optional click timestamps, builds version-2 sidecars, and writes them to a video-derived or explicit path. The CLI validates options, runs the writer, and reports sample counts in text or JSON. Tests and CLI documentation cover the import path.
X11 sampler and fallback selection electron/native-bridge/cursor/recording/*
The X11 session samples and normalizes pointer positions, maps supported button events, and tries available button watchers. Linux session creation can wrap PipeWire with an X11 fallback selected by environment settings.
Recording integration and pause-aware sidecars electron/ipc/handlers.ts, electron/native-bridge/capture/linuxNativeCaptureSession.ts, src/hooks/useScreenRecorder.ts, src/lib/nativeLinuxRecording.ts
Editable-overlay Linux recording starts and stops the sampler. On stop, the handler prefers native helper samples and uses pause-compacted sampler samples when the helper track is empty. The recording hook handles browser fallback and preserves Linux telemetry cursor mode.

When Electron reports (0,0), readPoint calls refreshXdotoolLocationCache() on every sample tick, about every 33 ms. If xdotool fails quickly, the inflight flag clears at once, so the next tick starts another process. Set a retry time in the .catch handler and skip lookups until it passes. Successful lookups keep their current behavior.

Rethrow the native Linux error when browser source selection fails.
When pickFirstScreenSource() returns false in this branch, the code ignores the result and returns false. The caller then shows the generic recording.selectSource alert. The native result.error reaches only console.warn, so the user does not see the native failure. Throw result.error when source selection fails.

Assert normalized cursor coordinates in the writer test.
The writer test uses width: 1920 and height: 1080 and checks only the output path, the sample count, and click presence. A regression that drops, hardcodes, or swaps width or height in writeCursorSidecarFromCsv would still pass. The suggested non-square dimensions produce distinct expected values. The CSV rows interpolate to (144, 81) at the click time, so the click normalizes to cx 0.1125 and cy 0.10125 at 1280×800. A hardcoded 1920×1080 or a swapped pair gives different values and fails these assertions.

Reject an import that yields no samples before writing the sidecar.
If the CSV has no valid data rows, parseMouseCsv returns an empty track. writeCursorSidecarFromCsv still calls fs.writeFile on <video>.cursor.json, which replaces the existing sidecar with zero samples. The command then reports samples=0 and exits 0. Add a check after buildCursorSidecar and before the write, so the existing sidecar stays unchanged.

Write the sidecar through a temp file, then rename it over the target.
fs.writeFile truncates outputPath before it writes. An interrupted or failed write can leave an empty or partial sidecar, and the reader then reports found: false. Write to a temp file and rename it over the target, as cliMain.ts already does.

Reject an --output path that matches --csv or --clicks.
writeCursorSidecarFromCsv reads the CSV and click files, then writes the sidecar JSON to outputPath without checking whether that path is one of its inputs. When --output names the mouse CSV or the clicks file, the input is read, then replaced with sidecar JSON. The command still prints Wrote <path> and exits with status 0, so the source telemetry is lost without an error.
Compare the resolved paths before the write. If outputPath equals csvPath or clicksPath, throw an error and do not write. This matches the same-path guard already used by the pack command.

Pass the captured monitor's bounds to the X11 pointer sampler.
On native Linux capture, the X11 sampler normalizes cursor positions with getSelectedSourceBounds(). When selectedSource has no display_id, that function returns the display nearest the pointer. The portal may have captured a different monitor, so overlay and auto-zoom coordinates can point at the wrong part of the video. The Linux helper does not report the granted capture rect to the sampler.

Stop the X11 sampler on discard, compact pause ranges into the fallback
sidecar, start the sampler clock at capture start, harden cursor import
CSV parsing/writes, trim XI2 rest, fail over click watchers on exit,
and pass the browser-fallback source through instead of re-reading
getSelectedSource().

Add a failover test that asserts a click from the second watcher.
The failover test checks only the spawn order and the console.warn text. It never reads data.samples. A regression that drops or corrupts the first click from the next watcher would still pass. Make the first fake child write a partial block to stdout before it exits. Make the second fake child emit a button event. Then assert that the click appears in the samples returned by session.stop().

the second watcher.
Add a sidecar-file assertion to the JSON import test.
The JSON tests in cursorCommands.test.ts check only the emitted payload. They never confirm that outputPath exists or is readable. A future change that skips sidecar publication only in JSON mode would still pass them. Add a fs.stat check on outputPath to the existing emits JSON when asked test.

In the “emits JSON when asked” test in cursorCommands.test.ts, add an assertion
that `fs.stat(outputPath)` resolves, confirming the sidecar file is present and
readable in JSON mode.

Resolve input and output paths to file identity before the alias check.
The same-path guard compares path.resolve strings. A symlinked --csv or --clicks input that points to the --output file passes the guard. The CSV is read, then the JSON temp file is renamed over the real file. The original input is replaced with JSON. Resolve each input with fs.realpath. Resolve the output through its parent directory and basename, because the output may not exist. Compare the results, or compare dev and ino from fs.stat when the output exists. Apply the same check to --clicks.

Fixes / implements #1415.
On X11 + Xvfb hosts the ScreenCast portal often has no METADATA cursor mode, so editable-cursor takes used to write no sidecar. This PR samples the pointer automatically during record (Electron
