First-time Mac users need a guided path from Claude Desktop to a working local First Draft app. This draft originally added a setup Skill, a rerunnable Homebrew/mise recipe, a public entry document, and a prepared Reading List Plan. The generated application continues to own its ordinary bin/setup and bin/dev commands.

Closed as superseded. The owner selected direct attachment of a .txt, .md, or .zip instruction file, with the in-app terminal for manual steps and potentially idempotent scripts. That supersedes this separately packaged setup Skill as well as the later, unimplemented personal-Skill proposal. Workshop issue #3 preserves the research and migration handoff; lesson PR #2 retains the useful draft content. The new attachment path has not been implemented or qualified. Closing this PR does not discard the installer, review record, or trial evidence.

Recoverable source and evidence

This PR's branch remains at c2aba84365cab746286c6b810dde81c0e6fe6a04. Its four newer commits are preserved remotely on codex/workshop-qualified-snapshot-20260929, exact commit 02f07695e7d6db8f9c3b827d10ca15962aa0ec56. They include the Desktop flow, reviewed log-owning installer (406bc365), precise token-editor instructions, and Trial 2 evidence. None of this is local-only anymore.

The proposal and review record preserve Opus 5.5 Max and Fable 5.1 Max review. Their material findings were addressed; the later Opus logging review approved with 83 tests and independent interactive-terminal probes. The final documentation delta passed 21 repository checks and Skill validation. These historical checks apply to the recorded source, not an integrated current-main candidate.

The assisted fresh Apple Silicon VM trial completed prerequisites with one normal password entry and no separate Apple installer GUI, Desktop runtime discovery, public plugin installation, authenticated Compilation, local create/edit/reload, a live CSS rebuild, and stop/setup-rerun/restart preserving data. It had recorded wrapper, credential-entry/harness, and Skill-invocation interventions. It used public plugin/CLI 0.7.0, Plan 0.22/API 0.6. It does not qualify an uninterrupted 0.8 journey, WSL, deployment, native builds, or Revyl. Desktop managed preview worked with unchanged bin/dev and Tailwind --watch; Core #153 owns the separate closed-stdin case.

Current public workshop

Lesson PR #2 and the public Gist let colleagues use the guided flow independently of this package candidate. The Gist's installer, Brewfile, and license match the preserved source snapshot. Its demo Plan has since changed only its format/profile identifiers to 0.23 / rails-sketch/2026-09-bookmark-assets, and passed the schema at released Skill source f5fb46c602e9fc82093522f4746b8b3afc318aec. That Plan update was not another live Compilation; it is no longer byte-identical to the old trial Plan. All five Gist files were anonymously re-downloaded and verified on September 29.

Reusable work after closure

Recover the installer, troubleshooting instructions, and evidence from the snapshot as useful for the selected attachment flow. Keep one maintained instruction set. The snapshot contains dated launcher and packaging plans; the later owner decision linked above takes precedence. Do not blindly cherry-pick package metadata or create another release just to preserve workshop instructions.

The lesson still needs reconciliation with current main and the selected attachment entry. Complete-instruction loading, prerequisite installation, app runtime, deployment, and native preview are distinct observations.

Service/CLI/Skills 0.8 shipped independently. This work is not a release gate. The snapshot's unpublished 0.7.1 metadata is superseded and must not be published; never reuse the 0.8 version or tag. This closure changes no source branch, tag, package selection, or production service; the exact source remains on the remote snapshot branch.

Move machine prerequisites into a portable setup Skill so beginners
can reach their local app without reconstructing an install recipe.
Keep application setup with bin/setup, preserve existing environments,
and provide a publicly fetchable demo Plan.
Only ask for a restart when the calling session still lacks the mise
shims on PATH. Rechecks and app runtime installs can otherwise
continue in the same session.

A Git version check can launch Apple’s graphical installer before the
command-line tools exist. Use the readiness check, wait for setup to
finish, and let Homebrew own that prerequisite installation.
Save installation output so machine-specific failures can be diagnosed
without students repairing their toolchains alone. Document the
verified plugin and secure environment entry points.
Token creation is part of the index page. The guessed new route
returned 404 during the clean-Mac workshop trial.
Separate verified installation and Desktop discovery from the still
unqualified Compilation and app-preview stages. Preserve the installer
handoff and redundant-GUI findings without claiming a cold-start time.

The continuation work now has a portable Issue: workshop setup #3.

It preserves the latest chat-only proposal to install the same maintained Gist instructions as a personal Skill, the distinction between that proposal and the currently published one-URL entry, the remaining qualification boundaries, and the need to preserve the newer local installer/trial evidence. The personal-Skill change is not implemented or newly approved by this tracking update. The already shipped 0.8 release remains independent.

Local-only workshop work preserved — September 29

The four newer workshop commits are now safely reachable from remote branch codex/workshop-qualified-snapshot-20260929, verified at exact commit 02f07695e7d6db8f9c3b827d10ca15962aa0ec56.

This preserves the reviewed installer/logging changes and assisted Mac Desktop trial report. A new computer can fetch those bytes; the old Mac and chat transcript are no longer needed to recover them.

This is an archival snapshot, not an integration or package release. Its old unpublished 0.7.1 metadata must be reconciled before any future packaging. PR #104 still points to its original branch/head, no tags changed, and this branch push triggers no publication workflow. Workshop issue #3 owns the continuation and final delivery choice.

Closing as superseded by the owner’s direct-attachment decision: https://github.com/appdev-lessons/fd-workshop-setup/issues/3#issuecomment-5894030967. The exact newer installer, review records, and assisted trial evidence remain on remote branch codex/workshop-qualified-snapshot-20260929 at 02f0769. No branches or tags are being deleted. Recover useful source for the chosen attachment flow; do not publish the stale 0.7.1 metadata. Lesson PR #2 remains draft for content reconciliation; no new packaging or live trial was started.
