Ciao1

I’m Antonio Magherini, PhD candidate in River Morphodynamics at the STREEM Lab of EPFL, in Switzerland.
My research project focuses on the three-dimensional characterization of river bedforms and the quantification of their contribution to sediment transport. Besides lab data analysis, I expect to include some morphodynamic modelling with both traditional physics-based and innovative data-driven models.

I hold a MSc in Civil Engineering - Hydraulic Engineering track from TU Delft, in the Netherlands.
I am passionate about river morphology and morphodynamics, hydromorphological modelling, river engineering interventions, and flood risk and natural hazard mitigation.
With my work I aim to integrate these areas with emerging technologies, like machine- and deep-learning techniques as well as satellite imagery, to advance research and practical applications for fluvial systems.

I was previously a research assistant at the University of Liege, where I worked on numerical modelling of floating debris in rivers during floods.

During my graduate internship at Deltares I developed a deep-learning model for predicting the morphological evolution of braided sand-bed rivers using satellite images. My thesis report is available at TU Delft repository. The code repository is available here.

As teaching assistant at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences of TU Delft, I contributed to the development and review of the MUDE Textbook and the TeachBooks.
I also contributed to the creation and release of Facing Floods, a freely available serious game for simulating stakeholder participation in river engineering decision-making processes.

If you wish to contact me, please send an e-mail to [email protected] or [email protected].

You can also find me on LinkedIn, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate.
I'm looking forward to getting in touch with you! :)
