Fix incorrect results and crashes in hpx::equal and hpx::mismatch for partitioned vectors
Previously, both algorithms advance their input pointers together and skip elements when any partition boundary is reached, even if the other partition still has elements. Chunks are also accessed as local memory which leads to crashes when the chunks are in different localities.
Changes
Traverse both ranges independently, bounding each comparison by either partition’s end
Preserve the earliest mismatching positions in sequential and parallel execution
Reuse capture_async to copy remote input chunks while retaining direct dispatch for partitions on the same locality
Keep captured values alive until comparison completes
Wait for capture results before checking for exceptions
Validation
Both unit suites pass tests with one and two TCP connected localities
All 32 placement cases pass. Previously, 24 of them would crash due to the chunk access issue
Covered different offsets, unequal partition sizes, opposite locality placement, excluded endpoints, and custom predicates across all four execution policies
Tested on macOS with Apple Clang 17, C++20, and a Debug build, using separate TCPconnected processes on the same machine.
Traverse equal and mismatch inputs independently across partition
boundaries. Capture remote input chunks when their owners differ,
while retaining direct dispatch for colocated inputs.
Cover offsets, unequal layouts, reversed locality placement, and
custom predicates across sequential, parallel, and task policies.

Cross-locality equal on very large partitioned ranges can hold many chunk-sized buffers at once. Parallel mismatch can return while some comparisons are still reading data, which can race with an immediate write by the caller. Both are bounded and mostly confined to unusual workloads, so the change is mergeable once these are acknowledged or fixed.

Explanation
[#7814] Requirements: hpx::equal and hpx::mismatch must return correct results for partitioned_vector ranges with different offsets and partition placement, in sequential and parallel execution.
segmented_equal (equal.hpp) and segmented_mismatch (mismatch.hpp) advance two independent cursors (sit1/beg1 and sit2/beg2). Each chunk length is min(count1, count2, max_chunk_size), so no comparison crosses either partition end. Both cursors advance by the chunk length, and each cursor moves to its next segment only when it reaches its own segment end.
Same-locality partitions use dispatch_async directly. Remote partitions use dispatch_comparison_async in capture_dispatch.hpp. It captures the second-range chunk with capture_async, then calls captured_comparison on the first partition's locality. captured.values is moved into that action, so the captured values stay alive until the comparison completes.
get_capture_result now calls ready.wait() before checking exceptions.
Trace of the reproducer (a = 0..7, b = 1..8, two partitions of four, range a+1 to a+7): equal compares chunks of 3, 1, and 2 elements, all equal, and returns true. Mismatch finds no mismatch and returns (last1, first2 + 6), which is {a.begin()+7, b.begin()+6}.
The sequential and parallel mismatch paths return the earliest mismatch in input order.
The added tests in partitioned_vector_equal.cpp and partitioned_vector_mismatch.cpp cover offsets, unequal layouts, locality placement, and predicates. The test results were not executed in this review. The PASS verdict rests on code tracing and the PR's reported validation.
Non-blocking review concerns from the PR objectives, such as parallel captures starting together and memory use, do not affect the #7814 correctness requirements.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changed areas relate to #7814:
capture_dispatch.hpp: get_capture_result waits before exception checks. captured_comparison and dispatch_comparison_async add the cross-locality comparison path. The max_capture_batch_elements edit only changes formatting.
equal.hpp: replaces the partition-by-partition dispatch with independent cursor traversal. The sequential path returns at the first unequal chunk. The parallel path collects chunk futures and combines them.
mismatch.hpp: uses the same independent traversal. The parallel path batches chunks and examines results in input order to return the earliest mismatch.
Tests in partitioned_vector_equal.cpp and partitioned_vector_mismatch.cpp exercise the corrected behavior.
No unrelated product behavior or public API change appears in the reviewed changes. The public declarations list no alterations. The new captured_comparison and dispatch_comparison_async are internal helpers in hpx::parallel::detail.

Bound the number of remote chunks in flight.
When first2 spans many chunks on another locality, this loop starts every capture before the final dataflow waits for results. The 128 MiB limit applies to each chunk, not to their combined in-flight storage. Large comparisons can therefore exhaust memory despite the chunk limit. Wait for a bounded group of futures before dispatching more chunks. (github.com)

Bound the total remote capture work in flight.
When a parallel comparison spans many cross-locality chunks, this limit applies to each chunk, but the loop starts every capture before it processes any results. Each capture copies its chunk into a value buffer. A large comparison can therefore retain many buffers at once and exhaust memory. Limit the number or total bytes of in-flight captures while preserving chunk order for mismatch selection. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Thanks, this is a real problem and the approach of walking both ranges independently looks right to me. The new tests with different offsets, partition counts and localities are very welcome. A few things before this can go in:
Please run clang-format on the changed files. For instance (std::min)( should be (std::min) (, and in capture_dispatch.hpp the comment // handle the case of different localities sits between template <typename Algo> and struct captured_comparison, while the doc comment of captured_comparison::sequential sits between its template header and the function. Please move the comments in front of the templates.
In the parallel loops all captures are started before any result is consumed, which means all remote parts of the second range end up in the calling locality at the same time (this is the remaining open CodeRabbit comment). In addition, the captured values travel twice (from the locality of the second partition to the caller, and then as an action argument to the locality of the first partition). Could the comparison action on the first partition fetch the values from the second partition directly instead? If you prefer to keep the current scheme for now, please at least add a comment explaining the memory implications.
count1 < count2 ? count1 : count2 followed by the cast to std::size_t, and remaining -= count with remaining being signed, mix signed and unsigned arithmetic. Please compute count from the two casted distances directly and keep remaining and count of the same type.
Please add a test case where the second range has an empty partition and one where first2 points to the end of a partition, as these take the count == 0 path.
CI has not run yet, I will approve the workflows once the formatting is fixed.

Wait for all batch futures before the mismatch continuation returns.
The batch starts every comparison before it consumes any result. If an earlier comparison reports a mismatch, or get_capture_result rethrows, the callback destroys the remaining plain hpx::future objects without waiting. Later comparisons can still read partition data after hpx::mismatch returns, so an immediate caller write can race with those reads.
