Energy wire-type, enum and oneof corrections, WMSA/SM/telemetry types, VCSEC surface and nav trip order (BREAKING) - #79
This change corrects and extends the energy_device and command groups for the next major release. It is breaking, and the changeset lists every breaking change.
energy_device: AlertLog.data and AlertMatrix.data become fixed64, GridComplianceStatus.qualifying_time_remaining_s becomes UInt32Value, WCAPIGetConfigResponse.charge_schedule becomes WCChargeScheduleConfigStatus, and ControllableDeviceProgram_Schedule.start/end/expiry become ControllableDeviceProgram_Schedule_Boundary. WCLifetimeStats is renumbered to tags 1-10. Five int32 fields get enum types (RegistrationFailure twice, LocalParticipant, and the new MeterCTLocation and DcMeterCommissioningError), and LocalParticipant moves from transport.proto to local_auth_api.proto. Eleven messages move fields into their oneofs, BackupEvent.sheduling_info becomes scheduling_info, and the two map fields named default become node_progresses and ecu_update_results. New files add the WMSA and SM payloads (with deprecated MessageEnvelope fields 13 and 14), the energy telemetry records and the energy command envelope, plus the enum TEGRegistrationFailure.
energy_command: the group is removed. identifier_type.proto moves to proto/energy_device/ with its package unchanged, because energy_command.proto needs energy_device types and groups cannot import each other. The module is dropped from buf.yaml, GROUPS_LIST and the README layout table, and the Python tesla_protocol.energy_command subpackage is deleted.
command: the three nested RemoteNavTripOrder enums (UNKNOWN = 0 to APPEND = 3) are replaced by one top-level RemoteNavTripOrder_E (Replace = 0, Prepend = 1, Append = 2), which also types NavigationRequest.order. The navigation golden fixtures are regenerated for the new numbering. VCSEC gains 59 messages, 41 enums, 39 oneof alternatives and the legacy SignedMessage and ToVCSECMessage fields, all fenced as local extensions and marked UNCONFIRMED. 155 obsolete tags are reserved across the vehicle-data state messages. EncryptedData.field_number stays int32, because upstream defines it that way.
Breaking changes: removal of the energy_command group and the new IdentifierType import path; the LocalParticipant import path; the fixed64, UInt32Value, charge_schedule and schedule boundary type changes; the WCLifetimeStats renumbering; enum typing of six fields; replacement of RemoteNavTripOrder with new numbering; eleven oneof moves; three field renames.
CI: buf.yaml's temporary ignore_only block from the previous breaking release is extended with this release's rules and files. The buf breaking CI step temporarily passes --against-config buf.yaml, because buf refuses to compare inputs with different module counts. Both are to be deleted in the first PR after this release is published. Catalog totals in test_build_catalog.py are updated.
This release adds energy-device telemetry, WMSA, SM, and command schemas with Python and TypeScript bindings. It updates energy-device wire contracts, consolidates navigation trip-order enums, expands VCSEC messages, reserves obsolete vehicle-data tags, and updates generation and catalog configuration.
Changes: Energy-device schemas and bindings
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Telemetry messages and bindings proto/energy_device/energy_telemetry.proto, packages/python/tesla_protocol/energy_device/energy_telemetry_pb2*, packages/typescript/src/energy_device/energy_telemetry.ts
Adds alert, telemetry, log, MP2 log, and signal messages with generated Python and TypeScript bindings.
WMSA and SM APIs in the transport envelope proto/energy_device/{wmsa_api,sm_api,transport}.proto, packages/python/tesla_protocol/energy_device/*_pb2*, packages/typescript/src/energy_device/{wmsa_api,sm_api,transport}.ts
Adds WMSA and SM APIs and their generated bindings. The transport envelope adds wmsa and sm fields. LocalParticipant is defined in the local-auth API and referenced from transport.
Energy-device wire contracts and conversions proto/energy_device/*.proto, packages/python/tesla_protocol/energy_device/*_pb2*, packages/typescript/src/energy_device/*.ts
Updates energy-device field types, enum types, oneof membership, field names, and WCLifetimeStats field numbers. TypeScript conversions also update optional-field handling.
Adds the energy-command envelope under energy_device and removes the old energy_command group from generation and package listings. Updates catalog counts and temporary breaking-check configuration.
Shared navigation trip order
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Shared enum and navigation conversions proto/command/car_server.proto, packages/typescript/src/command/car_server.ts, packages/python/tesla_protocol/command/car_server_pb2.pyi, fixtures/golden/navigation_*.json, .changeset/*
Replaces request-specific navigation trip-order enums with a shared enum. Replace, Prepend, and Append use values 0, 1, and 2; the bindings and golden fixtures use the updated names and encodings.
VCSEC protocol additions
Layer / File(s)
Summary
VCSEC messages and types proto/command/vcsec.proto, packages/python/tesla_protocol/command/vcsec_pb2.pyi
Adds VCSEC message fields, enum declarations, and message schemas for session, device, ranging, app, security, updater, and related protocol data.
This release makes many breaking schema changes that are documented in the changeset. One item needs confirmation before merge: the registration response uses the shared failure enum rather than the new TEG-specific one. If that is wrong, consumers will see different enum value names in JSON output.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 20 functions across 47 files. (29 skipped: 26 unsupported, 3 too large.)
Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

- Line 127: Check the upstream definition of TEGAPIRegisterResponse to confirm
the intended type of its failure field. Then update TEGAPIRegisterResponse and
TEGRegistrationFailure in the proto only as needed to match that definition,
accounting for the field’s enum type and JSON value names.
