homebrew-tools

Homebrew tap for Stackwise Technologies CLI tools.

Canonical install source for packages published under the Stackwise org — install and upgrade with a single brew command.

Install · Formulas · git-recap · Releases · Website · git-recap source

Quick start

brew tap StackwiseTechnologiesLtd/tools
brew trust StackwiseTechnologiesLtd/tools # required by modern Homebrew
brew install git-recap

Why brew trust? Recent Homebrew versions only load formulae from third-party taps you have explicitly trusted. Trusting this tap allows brew install / brew upgrade for formulas listed below.

Verify:

git-recap --version
git-recap --help
brew test git-recap

Available formulas

Formula Description Source Site
git-recap Offline standup summaries from local Git commits git-recap git-recap.onrender.com

More tools will be added here as they are released.

git-recap

A lightweight, zero-dependency CLI that aggregates your local Git commit messages over a timeframe so you can prepare for daily standups in seconds.

It reads only from local .git state on disk. Network is used only when you explicitly pass --reviews (via the authenticated gh CLI).

Features

  • Smart summaries — groups commits into Features, Fixes, Docs, Refactors, Tests, Performance, Chores, Reviews, and Other
  • Standup-ready — short, readable bullets with a final copy-friendly summary
  • Contextual / multi-scan — one repo, parent-folder scan, or explicit paths
  • Reliable author matching — prefers git config user.email, then user.name
  • Optional PR reviews — --reviews via authenticated gh
  • Zero dependencies — pure Bash + git (optional gh only for --reviews)
  • Private by default — offline from local Git unless --reviews is set

Install / upgrade

brew install git-recap
brew upgrade git-recap

Useful commands

git-recap # smart summary for current repo, or scan cwd subdirs
git-recap project-a ~/code/app # specific targets

git-recap --yesterday # yesterday's commits
git-recap --week # commits from the last week

git-recap --summary-only # only the standup summary block
git-recap --flat # raw commit list
git-recap --include-merges # keep merge commits
git-recap --reviews --today # commits + your GitHub PR reviews (needs gh)

How this tap works

Homebrew maps tap names to GitHub repositories:

Brew command Resolves to
brew tap StackwiseTechnologiesLtd/tools github.com/StackwiseTechnologiesLtd/homebrew-tools

Layout:

homebrew-tools/
├── Formula/
│ └── git-recap.rb
└── README.md

Each formula points at a tagged source archive from the corresponding project repo (for example v0.1.3.tar.gz) and pins an exact sha256 checksum. A reference copy of the formula also lives in the git-recap repo.

Updating formulas after a release

When a tool ships a new version (see git-recap VERSIONING.md):

  1. Tag and publish the release in the source repo (e.g. v0.1.3).
  2. Compute the archive checksum:
curl -sL https://github.com/StackwiseTechnologiesLtd/git-recap/archive/refs/tags/vX.Y.Z.tar.gz \
  | shasum -a 256
  1. Update url and sha256 in Formula/<name>.rb (and the reference copy in the source repo when applicable).
  2. Push to main on this tap.
  3. Users run:
brew update
brew upgrade git-recap

Local smoke test before pushing

brew reinstall --build-from-source Formula/git-recap.rb
brew test git-recap

Or, after the tap is published:

brew update
brew reinstall git-recap
brew test git-recap

Troubleshooting

Refusing to load formula ... from untrusted tap

brew trust StackwiseTechnologiesLtd/tools

sha256 mismatch

The tagged archive changed after the formula was published, or the formula points at the wrong tag. Recompute the checksum from the live tag URL and update the formula.

Formula installs but command not found

Ensure Homebrew’s prefix is on your PATH:

echo 'eval "$(/opt/homebrew/bin/brew shellenv)"' >> ~/.zprofile
eval "$(/opt/homebrew/bin/brew shellenv)"

Outdated Xcode / CLT errors

Update Xcode from the App Store (or install/update the Command Line Tools), then retry.

Contributing

  • Keep one formula per file under Formula/.
  • Prefer tagged GitHub source archives over HEAD installs.
  • Always pin sha256.
  • Prefer uses_from_macos for common system tools (e.g. git) when the formula only shells out to them at runtime.
  • Include a test do block that exercises --help or a similar smoke check.

Issues and PRs are welcome on this repo or on the individual tool repositories.
