Say whether a stored text can be saved back without loss; cut 2.19.0 - #63

MarkupTextSerializer.Inspect reads like Deserialize and reports Complete, Opaque, Unsupported or Damaged, with a diagnostic per problem and CanRewrite. It writes each codec-read layer back and compares structure, so an unknown property on a known kind, an unknown layout block or a dropped gradient stop is caught for any codec. The envelope gets a wire version: no "v" (or "v":1) is version 1, and Deserialize now throws for any other instead of reading it as version 1. Written bytes are unchanged; golden payloads from released 1.0.0, 2.0.0, 2.8.0 and 2.18.0 writers are pinned in WireCompatibilityTests. A payload with an unknown "v" now reads as its "t" in plain text, with nothing else read as version 1, instead of throwing; every later version keeps "t" as the document's plain text so that fallback always exists. A codec that throws leaves its layer as an UnknownMarkup holding the raw object, so Deserialize no longer fails and the layer writes back as it was. Inspect still reports both, so a caller that saves values back can keep the stored row. …ginal LayoutMarkup equality compared id, width, length and text hash but not the tree, so interning could hand one read another read's tree when a copy of a row kept the layout id but changed the tree. A layer read back now also carries a fingerprint of the tree's JSON, and equals another only when they share the tree or that fingerprint. The new wire tests hit this as a cross-test race on macOS CI. VersionOf reads a stored text's wire version from its top-level "v" without parsing the rest (1 when absent, null when unreadable), and NeedsUpgrade says whether it is earlier than WireVersion. The serialization guide sets out how later versions upgrade: one step from the version before, chained, working on the JSON, idempotent, leaving newer and damaged payloads alone, keeping "t", with fixtures; batching, backups and checkpoints belong to the store. - Around line 42-58: Update the shared WireShape.Lost policy to report loss when
an array is rewritten as a scalar by default. Add a codec-approved normalization
hook and have AnsiMarkupCodec.FromLegacyCodes approve only legacy color arrays
it can interpret; do not grant this exemption to other codecs.
- Line 58: Update the scalar/default branch of WireShape.Lost to reject changes
where the read and written JsonValueKind values differ, returning a diagnostic
through the existing Where(path) format. Compare types only so numeric ANSI
presence flags such as bo:0 and bo:1 remain normalizable.

WireShape let an array come back as any scalar and ignored scalar kind changes, so a sound source of [1,2] read as "" or a pane name of 5 read as "" still counted as rewritable. A value now has to keep its JSON kind (true and false count as one); the only array allowed to come back as a scalar is a legacy ANSI colour (f, g, fs) the codec wrote as a colour. Before:
Deserializeturns a partly understood or damaged row into an ordinaryMarkupText, and nothing tells the caller that saving it back would drop an unknown property on anansilayer, an unknown layout block, a gradient stop or an unknown envelope field. A row like{"v":2,"text":"important"}reads as empty and{"v":2,"t":"x","p":…}has its palette read as if it were version 1. A codec that throws fails the whole read. Reading a layout after a different tree with the same id could return the other tree. After:
MarkupTextSerializer.Inspectreads the same way and returns aMarkupReadResultwith the value, aStatus(Complete,Opaque,Unsupported,Damaged), one diagnostic per problem, andCanRewrite. It never throws on bad input. The envelope has a wire version: no"v"(or"v":1) is version 1. Any other version reads as its"t"in plain text and nothing else, and every later version must keep"t"as the document's plain text so that fallback always exists.VersionOfandNeedsUpgradereport a stored payload's version without reading it. A codec that throws leaves its layer as anUnknownMarkupwith the raw object instead of failing the read. Written bytes are unchanged. The version is cut as 2.19.0.Showing a value and saving it back are separate questions.
Deserializeanswers the first and never fails on content it can partly read;Inspectanswers the second. This follows Tolerant Reader, Matrix'sbodyfallback and Tiptap's read-only-on-content-error pattern.docs/serialization.mdsets out how a later version's upgrade step must behave (works on JSON, idempotent, leaves newer or damaged payloads alone, keeps"t").How:
Readtakes an optional check that records damage (wrong field types, cover overrun, bad indices, palette slot 0 not null, non-string"k", throwing codecs) and unused palette entries. Each layer a codec reads is written straight back and compared with what was read (WireShape): every property must survive, every value keeps its JSON kind (true/falsecount as one), arrays keep their length, and the"k"/"t"discriminators keep their values. Scalar values themselves are not compared, sobo:0written asbo:1and#rrggbbaawritten as#rrggbbstill count as complete; the one kind change allowed is ANSIf/g/fslegacy arrays written back as the colour they mean. This works for any codec, including a game's own, without changingIMarkupCodec.LayoutMarkupequality now also compares a fingerprint of the tree it was read from, so interning no longer swaps trees.WireCompatibilityTestspins golden payloads from the released 1.0.0, 2.0.0, 2.8.0 and 2.18.0 writers (identical bytes across all four), the pre-"k"legacy forms, and every case listed in the issue.Refs #61. This covers its first two steps (freeze and reproduce, loss-aware reads). It does not add cross-version package runners, SharpMUSH integration coverage or a CI gate.
