Summary

Adds support for connecting to hidden Wi-Fi networks directly from the Network panel.

Changes

  • Add a "Connect to hidden network" option to the NetworkManager UI
  • Allow separate connection name and SSID values
  • Support Open, WPA/WPA2 Personal, and WPA3 Personal security
  • Add password input for secured networks
  • Create hidden NetworkManager profiles using nmcli
  • Activate newly created hidden network profiles
  • Remove the newly created profile when activation fails
  • Refresh saved network profiles after connection attempts

Testing

Tested locally with NetworkManager:

  • Successfully created and connected to a hidden WPA/WPA2 network
  • Verified the resulting profile has 802-11-wireless.hidden=yes
  • Verified connection name and SSID can differ
  • Verified failed connection attempts clean up the newly created profile
  • Verified the existing Available/Saved network UI continues to work

thanks for this, and sorry to close it. we'd already shipped a hidden-network join on the current unstable-dev, so this now collides with it: the panel ends up with two hidden forms side by side and the daemon path is different (this drives nmcli, ours goes through the NetworkManager dbus intent).

one thing you surfaced that we genuinely don't have is worth naming: our form is SSID and password only, and for a hidden network there's no scanned AP to read the security off, so the profile is always built as wpa-psk. that means a hidden WPA3 network can't be joined. your separate security choice fixes exactly that gap and I'd take it as its own change on top of what's there now.

so nothing you wrote is wasted, it just has to be re-aimed at the current panel. if you want to do that I'll review it quick, otherwise I'll note the WPA3 case internally.
