Before: the template names versions in many places (dependency floors, "5.3.x" in the README and AGENTS.md, Python classifiers, the compatibility matrix, pinned actions) and nothing warns when they drift, for instance after PyMoDAQ 5.4.0 is released.
After: a weekly workflow (also on pull requests touching these files) fails and emails the repository watchers when something has drifted. Dependabot opens a monthly pull request for the pinned actions. Both only run in this template repository.
What the script checks (
.github/scripts/check_template_versions.py, standard library only, floors inpyproject.tomlare the single source of truth):pymodaq*floor exists on PyPI and thepymodaqfloor is in the branch's minor;requires-pythonequal those of the latest pymodaq of the branch's minor;README.rstandAGENTS.mdequals the branch. The checklist for a new PyMoDAQ minor is in the docstring of the script. Checked locally: it prints OK on this branch and reports each of the drifts above when I introduce them by hand.
