chore(ci): improve lighthouse test performance - #449
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The Lighthouse test path adds bounded worker pools, per-runner Chromium debugging ports, and phase timing. CI profiling adds configurable targets, reset modes, sample counts, resource collection, Lighthouse validation, and paired-revision reports. The change also updates a Monaco performance threshold and the core package description.
Changes: Lighthouse execution and profiling
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Runner timing and browser lifecycle projects/internals/vite/src/runners/profile.js, projects/internals/vite/src/playwright/index.js, projects/internals/vite/src/runners/playwright.js
The runner records named timing phases, including browser lock wait and held time. Playwright can launch Chromium with an assigned debugging port and attempts each cleanup operation before reporting failures.
Lighthouse worker pool and project wiring projects/internals/vite/src/runners/lighthouse-workers.js, projects/internals/vite/src/runners/lighthouse.js, projects/internals/vite/src/configs/lighthouse.js, projects/internals/vite/src/setup/lighthouse.js, projects/core/vitest.lighthouse.ts, projects/monaco/vitest.lighthouse.ts, projects/monaco/src/diff-editor/diff-editor.test.lighthouse.ts
Worker limits are derived from the Lighthouse test-file count and capped. Project settings pass worker counts to LighthouseRunner, which opens and closes a runner pool. Core sets a maximum of four workers. Monaco uses one worker, disables file parallelism, and sets the score threshold to 71.
Profiler options, task graph, and run validation projects/internals/ci/ci-profile.js
The profiler supports configurable targets, samples, reset modes, and paired revisions. It resolves the task graph, collects resource and phase data, and validates Lighthouse task execution and test summaries.
Profile reports and comparison runs projects/internals/ci/ci-profile.js, .github/workflows/ci.yml
Profile reports include expanded run data and copied artifacts. Comparison mode profiles paired revisions. The Lighthouse CI commands run through mise exec --.

Package description projects/core/package.json
The package description now identifies the project as a UI SDK and agent-ready developer toolkit. The accessible and themeable UI components wording remains.

The CI profiler can be invoked with --reset none and multiple samples, which will fail its own validation rather than produce results. Reject or constrain that combination before relying on it. The default cold profiling path and the Lighthouse test changes are not affected by this issue.

If we profile a future Wireit upgrade against main, both reports would list the parent checkout’s version, even though the baseline runs the older one. That could hide a useful clue when investigating timing differences.
Could we refresh metadata.wireit before writing the reports, once reset has installed the revision’s dependencies?
Wouldn't affect this comparison, but would keep those future comparisons accurate.

Make worktree removal independent of artifact copying.
If cpSync on Line 630 throws, for example on a partial .metrics tree, Line 631 does not run. The worktree stays registered in the parent repository. The outer rmSync then deletes its directory, which leaves stale metadata until git worktree prune. The cpSync error also replaces the original profiling error.

Reject multi-sample --reset none profiles.
none mode preserves incremental freshness, while each sample still runs pnpm run <target>. The Lighthouse tasks declare files and output, so later samples can skip them. The parser then omits those tasks, causing verifyLighthouseExecution to reject Lighthouse runs. CI aggregation also rejects scripts that lack all requested samples.
