Closes #484 of the upstream.

Rationale

There are two types of failing tests, with runs made on the fork

  • One failing test for Python 3.8, which is a licensing handling issue during project installation.
  • One failing test for Python 3.9-3.12, which is a hardcoded value returned by the underlying library.

The second is fixed, using the new library message. This was trivial, and having this value hardcoded doesn't pose an issue for the time being, at least as an indicator of the underlying Python changes.

The first is not. Since Python 3.8 has long since been deprecated, let me know if this needs to be handled (for whatever reason). If that is the case, installation should follow a slightly different path (or dig deeper in the pipeline).

Overall:

  • Tests for officially supported Python versions pass (3.9 - 3.12)
  • Tests were successfully run on the fork
