BL4 AutoReload adds four selectable reload behaviors to Borderlands 4 while keeping the game's native reload logic, helping eliminate the built-in delay before a reload starts on zero ammo.
Instead of replacing or simulating the reload itself, the mod asks the game to start its normal reload. This preserves normal reload animations, reload speed, bonuses and interruption behavior.
Automatically starts a reload when the magazine of a supported weapon becomes empty.
The same behavior, limited to Jakobs weapons.
Does not automatically reload when the last round is fired. Reload begins only when Fire is pressed again while the magazine is already empty.
The same empty-fire behavior, limited to Jakobs weapons.
- Four selectable native reload behaviors.
- Behavior can be changed from the in-game mod settings and is saved between sessions.
- Empty Fire modes automatically follow the current
Action_Firebindings. - Supports keyboard/mouse and gamepad fire bindings.
- Refreshes fire bindings after control mappings are rebuilt.
- Handles weapons with separate primary and secondary fire ammo pools by following the active
CurrentUseModeIndex. - Ignores stale ammo replication events from inactive fire modes.
- Uses the game's native reload request instead of externally simulating a reload.

- Install or update BL4 PythonSDK / Oak2 using the official guide above.
- Download
BL4_AutoReload.sdkmodfrom GitHub Releases or Nexus Mods. - With Borderlands 4 closed, copy the
.sdkmodfile intact toBorderlands 4\sdk_mods\. Do not extract the.sdkmoditself. - Start the game, open the Mods menu, enable BL4 AutoReload and select the desired Behavior.
To update BL4 AutoReload, replace the existing .sdkmod with the newer file and restart the game.
Do not enable older standalone auto_reload_* or empty_fire_reload_* mods at the same time as BL4 AutoReload.
The mod uses the game's native reload request:
ServerStartReloading(CurrentUseModeIndex, 0)
Normal reload animation, reload speed, perk effects and standard interruption behavior are therefore preserved.
- Co-op support: Unknown — behavior with the mod installed only on a client while the host does not have it has not yet been validated.
- The mod does not replace weapon animations or modify reload speed values.
