Overview

InkStream is a desktop Markdown editor that keeps your documents as plain Markdown while offering a live editing experience for headings, tables, links, code blocks, math, LaTeX, Typst, and Pandoc-based export.

It is designed for writers who need local files, technical formatting, and predictable export rather than a web-only note service.

Windows builds are published on the GitHub Releases page.

Available package types:

• Windows installer: inkstream_*_x64-setup.exe

Public Mirror

The public source mirror is available at KRPCT/InkStream-public.

Only the cleaned main branch is mirrored. Private development and release branches remain in the private source repository.

Build From Source

Requirements:

• Node.js 22 or newer
• pnpm 10.x
• Rust stable toolchain
• Windows WebView2 Runtime
• Git LFS

Install dependencies:

cd inkstream
pnpm install --frozen-lockfile

Run the desktop app in development:

pnpm tauri dev

Build desktop installers:

pnpm tauri build

Bundled Pandoc

InkStream bundles Pandoc for local document import and export. The executable is stored with Git LFS:

inkstream/src-tauri/resources/pandoc/pandoc.exe

After cloning, if the file is still an LFS pointer, run:

git lfs pull
