A wiki edit on a third-party repo failed by git push, even though the wiki takes edits from anyone. GitHub answers "Permission ... denied" to outsiders on the wiki's git remote, and only the web editor works. The skill now says so, and says to check the result with a fresh clone of the wiki.

The same run lost its browser tab to another agent sharing the browser, mid-edit. The skill now says to confirm a web submission from outside the browser.

Software Heritage needs no browser either: an anonymous POST to the save URL files the request. The places entry now says that.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added guidance for editing publicly accessible GitHub wikis through the web editor, then checking a fresh clone to confirm only the intended line was added under the owner’s public identity.
    • Added guidance to verify shared-browser submissions by fetching results outside the browser.
    • Updated the Software Heritage reference to clarify that an anonymous origin-save request is accepted, while checking an origin with no prior save request returns a 404.

📝 Walkthrough

The grow-my-repo skill adds verification guidance for GitHub wiki edits and shared-browser submissions. Its Software Heritage reference now describes responses from the origin-save API.

Changes: Grow My Repo guidance

Layer / File(s) Summary
External edit and submission verification
skills/grow-my-repo/SKILL.md
The skill instructs users to edit public GitHub wikis through the web editor, then verify the commit from a fresh clone. It also instructs users to verify shared-browser submissions by fetching the result outside the browser.
Software Heritage save API responses
skills/grow-my-repo/references/places.md
The reference states that an anonymous origin-save POST returns save_request_status: accepted. It also states that a GET returns 404 with “No save requests found” when no save request exists.

The added instructions could publish a wiki edit under the wrong public identity and overstate whether an archive request was accepted. These are bounded guidance issues; no broader operational failure is established.

Rule: "Zenodo archives your repository and issues a new DOI each time you create a new GitHub release."; "If your repository also contains a .zenodo.json file, Zenodo will only use the .zenodo.json metadata and ignore the CITATION.cff entirely."
- **Software Heritage** `[worth it, agent]` Every public repo. Route: https://archive.softwareheritage.org/save/ or a webhook on releases. Gives a citable SWHID. No login, and github.com origins are accepted with no human review, so a curator's day limit does not apply; the anonymous rate limit does (it tripped after ten saves in about three minutes on 2026-10-10). Read a request's state at `https://archive.softwareheritage.org/api/1/origin/save/git/url/<clone URL>/`, or add the webhook so releases save themselves.

Correct the future-dated observation.

October 14, 2026 is after October 13, 2026. Correct the date or remove it; it cannot describe an observation already made.

Qualify the POST response status.

The API can return accepted, pending, or rejected, depending on the origin. As written, this says any anonymous POST returns accepted. State that this applies to accepted GitHub origins, and tell readers to check save_request_status. (docs.softwareheritage.org)

- A contact form on a newsletter, blog, podcast or news site is a pitch: write the owner a brief and leave the
sending to them.
- A public GitHub wiki that outsiders may edit still refuses `git push` from them ("Permission ... denied", seen on
2026-10-14). Edit it in the web editor at `/wiki/<Page>/_edit`, then clone `<repo>.wiki.git` afresh and check that

Correct the wiki observation date.

Line 119 says the push denial was seen on 2026-10-14, but the review date is 2026-10-13. Correct the date or describe this as a future check.

Require the owner's account before saving the wiki edit.

Line 119 permits an outsider to use the web editor but does not require the owner's authenticated account. GitHub ties web-based commits to the account's commit identity, and wiki history records who made the change. If an agent saves while signed in as itself, the published commit will not be under the owner's identity. Line 120 checks this only after publication. Require the owner's account before saving, or hand the edit to the owner. (docs.github.com)
