A free Shopify theme for bookshops, publishers and anyone selling a catalogue where the author and the rating matter as much as the price. Built on Online Store 2.0 theme blocks, with no jQuery, no CSS framework and nothing fetched from a third-party CDN.

The preview is a static build of the same design rather than a live storefront. It and this theme share assets/base.css — literally the same file — so what you see there is what the Liquid renders.

The whole homepage, and the mobile layout

What you get

• Genre tabs — a homepage grid where each tab is one of your collections. Every panel renders with the page, so switching costs no request and works with JavaScript disabled. Full ARIA tabs pattern, including arrow-key navigation.
• Author and rating on every card — the theme maps Shopify's vendor to the author and reads reviews.rating, so a book card shows what a book buyer scans for. Both are theme settings, so a merchant who does not want them can turn them off.
• Portrait covers — the card image ratio ships as tall (2:3), the shape a book actually is, rather than the square a furniture theme wants.
• Filterable collections — filter and sort through Shopify's free first-party Search & Discovery app.
• Product pages built from blocks — title, vendor, price, variant picker, quantity, buy buttons, stock status, description and collapsible rows, each one movable in the editor.
• Ajax cart drawer with quick add straight from the grid.
• Predictive search — product, collection, article and page suggestions.
• Page banners with breadcrumbs on every inner page, marked up as BreadcrumbList.
• Multi-currency and multi-language through Shopify Markets.
• Four editable colour schemes applied per section, plus font pickers, spacing, corner radius, card and star-colour controls.

Install

Upload abcbook-shopify-theme.zip in Online Store → Themes → Add theme → Upload zip file. Do not unzip it first — Shopify expects the archive. Then Customize to set your logo, colours and menus, and Publish.

To work on it locally:

Setting it up as a bookshop

Nothing here is required, but this is what the demo assumes:

Turn Vendor and Rating on or off under Theme settings → Product cards, where the star colour also lives.

Two sections are worth knowing about:

Section	What it does
page-header	The image banner on every inner page: title, breadcrumb trail, BreadcrumbList JSON-LD.
tabbed-collections	The genre grid. Panels render server-side, so the grid works with JavaScript off and tab switching costs no request.

Shared design system

assets/base.css is the same stylesheet the Furn and Fashe Shopify themes are built on. Only the theme settings differ — colours, type, radius, heading case.

The ABC Book HTML template is a static build of this same design system: its assets/css/style.css is a token block plus this file copied verbatim, and build/check-tokens.py there fails if its tokens ever stop matching config/settings_data.json. The preview is therefore an honest picture of what this theme renders, not an approximation.

Notes

• shopify theme check: 98 files, 0 errors, 0 warnings.
• Two asset files, no build step, no minification, no Sass — what you see in Shopify's code editor is what runs.
• English only. Both locale files are complete and fully keyed, so adding a language is a translation job rather than a code one.
• Not yet rendered against a live store with real inventory.

Licence

Free to use and modify on any number of Shopify stores, including client stores. The one thing we ask is that you do not repackage and resell the theme itself.
