The authorized local workspace contains about 6.76 million entries and exceeds the prototype file, watcher and snapshot-loader limits. Add bounded capacity for ten million entries, a 512 MiB snapshot, a 1 GiB snapshot arena and 2 GiB worker address space; keep permission-denied subtrees explicit without privilege escalation, symlink traversal or mount traversal.
Refresh supports an explicit five-minute build deadline; normal startup remains two seconds with an optional bounded 30-second service override. Add permission-exclusion and startup-bound tests, and retain existing cleanup, root-move, malformed-state and deadline tests. Continuous workspace monitoring requires separate real-root qualification.
Validation: direct-compiler Meson build; all 20 test groups passed. Installed source e0ec8e7 now serves a validated 132,313,886-byte workspace snapshot: 6,115,587 files and 618,761 directories. Normal CLI and a fresh stored-registration MCP client passed; warm replacement passed. Prior units are stopped and retained for rollback, unrelated configuration is unchanged, and SysRAG remains parked. Full-workspace monitoring is explicitly deferred; a bounded manual refresh command is installed. Acceptance evidence: docs/research/2026-10-08-workspace-index.md. Closes #21.
