Windows: need admin elevation or developermode enabled in windows #907

Closed

Description

@sandspeed

starting the exe the program sits on connecting to service over and over again. starting as admin opens fine, developer mode also allows it to start due to what seems like due to attempting to call a symlink not as admin.

    Fixed in 0.14.1, now the Latest release.

    Windows store rebuilds now use a same-volume hardlink for events.jsonl instead of a symlink, so startup needs neither administrator rights nor Developer Mode. Service setup failures now display the error with an explicit Retry button and stop retrying indefinitely. The fix is also merged to main (#908).

    The exact published Windows ZIP passed on a real hosted Windows machine under a newly created standard account with Developer Mode OFF and no symlink privilege: cold startup, service connection, authenticated sandboxed main UI, persistent setup-error UI and explicit Retry. Windows qualification evidence.
