This grant covers SporeMP's original source code, including the bridge, coordinator, worker tools, launcher, website code, build scripts and tests. Supporting files that form part of the corresponding source are included. Existing notices identifying another author or license take precedence for the material they describe. Copyright remains with each respective contributor.
The SPDX identifier for this grant is GPL-3.0-or-later. The unmodified GPL version 3 text is in LICENSE; the grant above supplies the choice of a later version.
- Third-party software: dependencies and third-party source fragments retain their applicable upstream licenses and notices. The project license does not relicense them. See THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md and source provenance.
- Artwork and other media: the code grant does not assign a license to illustrations, photographs, screenshots, audio or video. In particular,
src/launcher/Assets/universe.pngand its website copy have documented generation provenance, but no separate artwork license is assigned by this change. - Original game: no rights to EA/Maxis game executables, assets, names or marks are granted. Players and operators must provide their own game installations. SporeMP is an independent project, not an official or endorsed EA/Maxis product.
- Historical evidence: the code grant does not grant rights in third-party material or personal data referenced by historical reports, captures or logs. Public evidence has a separate review and redaction policy; the code license does not authorize publishing private evidence.
GPL-covered code can be used privately, modified, shared and sold under the license's conditions. Donations are permitted. Distribution of covered binaries requires compliance with the GPL's corresponding-source and notice requirements; distributing modified covered versions also carries the GPL's applicable conditions. The full license text governs.
Selecting a license for original project code does not by itself qualify a compiled release or resolve the terms of every bundled dependency. A package must retain the required third-party notices and include only materials whose distribution terms have been satisfied. Native compatibility and release acceptance remain governed by the milestone plan.
LICENSE was obtained verbatim from the Free Software Foundation's canonical GPL version 3 text on 2026-09-21. The project-specific grant above is kept separate so the license document itself remains unmodified.
