  • to ensure file integrity (file integrity is not as much of a concern due to other issues potentially breaking integrity like unverified server downloads)
  • for user convenience: when having the same mod but different name to not need to redownload
  • can also look into user anti-cheat if they edit server mods
• Integrate repo for direct downloads for official servers

SHA1 might be overkill if we don't need integrity, check MD5, CRC32, or FNV1 "for binaries it's alright and it's very fast"

I would say it's a very low priority right now, but it may be nice eventually. @florinm03 said he did some performance experiments, maybe he could share.
