Key presses forwarded to host? #549

Usually people have the opposite issue: the host grabbing keyboard input away from the plugin. Maybe elaborate with the specific host/os/plugin-format as all of these can affect this behavior. |

A friend of mine has experienced the problem when using VST3 in Cubase on a Mac, and I've verified the same behavior using VST3 in Reaper in Linux. In Reaper for instance, the R key doesn't permeate to the host when the plugin window is in focus, even though R is not used by the plugin, so it sends it on from its onKeyboard callback. Looking in the DPF code, at some point, the return value from onKeyboard (indicating whether or not the plugin grabbed the key or not) is discarded when permeating the return value upwards, so there doesn't seem to be a way that the plugin can successfully actively signal this. |
Uh oh!

It appears that DPF doesn't pass UI keypresses to the host, even if the plugin's onKeyboard() returns false, essentially saying, "this is not a key I deal with, so I'm passing it upwards". Is this a deliberate design choice, or is it something waiting to be addressed sometime down the line?
